Just played the “prologue” (I guess) of my friend’s mech campaign which will hence forth be referred to as “the mad baron’s treasure”.
The first Lance of the Mt Rheo Irregulars (consisting of a wraith TR1, Awesome 8Q, charger 1a1, and hunchback 4p) engaged a reinforced Lance of unknown origin (consisting of a victor, two fleas, a rifleman, an enforcer, and a wyvern) in the foothills south of the planet’s principle settlement.
The Old Dog Winston in his 8Q immediately climbed the hill overlooking the ravine between the lances, halting just before the peak to protect him from incoming fire, while the rest of his Lance moved west down into the ravine to mitigate long range incoming fire. The enemy moved East and lined the western ridge opposite the old dog and began to open up on him with a fusillade, save the two fleas who focused their harassment fire down onto the main body of the Irregulars.
The Old Dog fired across the ravine with the full battery of his 8Q, setting a steady tempo that the rest of the engagement would follow.
The main body of the enemy rushed down their ridge line into the ravine, seemingly attempting to overwhelm the Old Dog’s PPCs. But their right flank was open to the Charger and 4p who pushed north long the ravine bottom and punished them with raking fire, closing tight in an attempt to engage with “base pugilism” all the while being raked in turn by the enemy fleas, who remained mounted on the ridge to the west. Taking advantage of its maneuverability, the Wraith jumped up, over and behind the fleas, where it tore open the flea’s fragile back armor before chasing the wounded mech down into the ravine and destroyed it.
The enemy’s main body (consisting of a rifleman, enforcer, and wyvern) pivoted to meet the Charger and 4p, while the victor was knocked back and down by the Old Dog’s withering fire. It’s pilot managed to right it again but upon standing the Victor found itself nose to groin with the Charger 1a1, who had over extended to rush up and cut of his advance, Brodie in the 1a1 then planted a firm kick into the Victor’s side torso and set off a cascading ammo explosion that left the assault mech little more than a crater on the hillside.
Seeing their larger brother struck down the rifleman and enforcer began to retreat, pursued by the 4p who in turn was still being harried by the remaining flea until the wraith caught up and put an end to it’s nuisance. The wyvern also attempted to make an escape but was caught by Brodie and plowed into a furrow on the hillside. While the rifleman made a valiant final stand before cooking off but unfortunately buying the sole enforcer its escape.
Final count was two enemy pilots taken, five enemy mechs destroyed against superficial damage on all Irregular mechs save the charger who suffered minor structural damage to the legs from “excessive kicking”
Hopefully the survivors prove useful.
