KARA-LIS COVERDALE - AFTERTOUCHES (SACRED PHRASES, 2015)

I really love how this album moves. It travels. The slow sweeps of organs, glide like steadily a camera on a dolly or drone, traversing breathtaking expanses of landscapes. The ethereal voices or voxpads heighten a sense of reverie or sacrament. 

That is, until the further in we go into the sonic journey and arrive at the separation and de-composition of this explored world. If most of the album is terrain then by the time we get to Arcane in the later half of the record, we’ve reached an abandoned house or compound, or dwelling of some sort, and inside, among many things, we encounter mystery…Or at least I do. The examination continues. 

The titles makes me think of both post-production, the editing of the sound, to sculpt the desired impression from the raw sounds, samples, etc. But the title feels like things left behind to be found. Things changed by time and space.
