Moving back “home”?
Being away from home is awesome. You get your independence you crave so much in high school, time away from your parents, and the ability to do what you want when you want. It makes you grow up a bit. You also have to figure out your own problems like when you run out of the gas on the high way, you have to figure out how to get home.
At some point, college became my home. It’s where I really grew up and learned a lot about myself. My chosen friends became my family.
Now, I moved back into my parent’s house because they have free rent and even though I have a decent paying job, it still wouldn’t cover the cost of rent, a car payment, and food.
It feels weird being here. Like the last 4 years didn’t happen. Sure I can go as I please, but I’m still coming back to people that are expecting me. Coming back from the bar drunk as fuck with taco bell in my hand certainly doesn’t sound as much fun anymore with a judgmental mother eyeing the current length of my dress.
This place is no longer home. It’s my parent’s house that I currently reside in.
Life’s Intriguing Joke
We are raised within an era of dreamers.
When we were 5 years old the questions begin. “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. If you didn’t have an answer to this question you were probably labeled as the odd kid. Everybody wants to be something, right? Whether it’s a rock star or President of the United States or even something more attainable like being a teacher. The point is, you were supposed to have an answer. At 5 years old.
We were raised to believe that we could do anything “we stuck our mind to”. That’s what my parents always said. I always believed them. I always believed that if I studied a little harder I could pull those insanely high grades that the smart kids seemed to get effortlessly. But, that’s not how the world works is it?
Some of us are destined to have it easier. You could blame nature and genetics, situational circumstances, or your parents. Whatever you choose to blame, deep down you’ll always know that you are a victim of your own circumstances.
But the thing is, not everybody can be President of the United States. Not everybody is extraordinary. Most of us are just trying to figure out where we fit into this world.
That’s what I’m trying to do I guess. Lately, I’ve been feeling sad, since graduation really. I have everything I wanted......but, it’s not enough.
Stay tuned.
