Never Alone
It had all been for nothing. Right from the start, he was nothing more than a puppet on a string that led back to the tips of William Afton’s fingers. All the photographs and clothing he had looted from the old Afton house still sat perfectly untouched in the back of his van. He wouldn’t throw them out, but he couldn’t look at them either. The ache in his chest was too great just sharing the van space with them. There was a finality to the garage door closing as he parked his van and stepped out. It had been a long time since he was lost inside his own home and even that felt different. Silent. Unbearable. Shane hopped out of the cab and watched as T’aaku moved on autopilot, shutting the passenger door before looking at the back and deciding against grabbing whatever stock remained there. He shook his head and trudged into the main room, greeted by the graffiti on the walls that no longer spoke to him. He felt too hollow inside. Too disgusting. Too irredeemable. The inside of his home felt cold and abandoned, the light switches clicking audibly without producing any light. He would have to climb the catwalks and check the breaker again-- but that could wait until later.
