Remember Hosanna Seely

Remember (she/her) is a 12 year old girl living in Connecticut in 1651. She immigrated from England with her parents when she was five, her father dying shortly after their arrival. Remember and her mother are very close, and live out their days busily, full of chores- spinning, sewing, cleaning, gardening. They also spend their time talking lots, especially about the family back in England that Remember was too young to properly remember. When she gets the chance, Remember also loves to sneak away to the edge of the town and spy on animals passing through.

Remember's simple life changes soon, though. Remember has childhood onset schizophrenia, a mental illness that hadn't been even named at the time, only known vaguely as "madness", often associated with demonic possession. When the Puritan townspeople see Remember displaying psychotic symptoms, rumors of witchcraft begin to fly. As tensions grow and accusations are made, Remember's mother decides to protect her daughter at any cost, and they flee into the night. Right now, I don't know where they would be able to go safely, but I want Remember to have a happy ending.

Remember is a resourceful, bright and friendly girl who just wants to be free to be herself, and enjoy her happy, small family.

My custom girl I made from a neighbors old doll, and a dress from once upon a child! 💖

My first time customizing so I just curled her hair, added freckles and details with watercolor pencil, lashes and pierced her nose and ears!

Here she is in the smallest curlers I could find! I learned a bit about how to take care of her hair better for next time.

Her hair had a lot of volume even after trying to tame it a bit so I put it in her little buns!

It was a learning process for sure but I’ve already started making wefts from scratch to make a wig for another doll 😭

Nina Maa

Nina is my first oc to get a proper introduction here!

Nina Maa (she/her) is an eleven year old girl living in Texas in the 1830s. (I haven't chosen a particular year - I suppose her story starts at age ten, and continues through the 30s.)

Nina is a shy, quiet girl who often feels out of place- not only are her family one of not many Asian Mexican families living in Texas at the time, but her port-wine birthmark gets her lots of attention, mostly negative. She often wishes she could just stay home and in the garden all the time. She secretly wishes to become a painter, although she hasn't yet been brave enough to ask for paints- she sketches though, and sometimes tries to make paint from the plants in the garden.

Nina's mother's side of the family are descended from "chinos" who were brought enslaved from Asia in the 1600s, whereas her father immigrated from China with his own father (a merchant) as a teen.

Nina's family moved to Texas when she was younger, and are now living through a lot of political strife. I still need to further research this era, but it seems full of potential.

Nina is an only child, and lives with her parents. Her family is Catholic and speaks Spanish and Cantonese.

Happy Black History Month! Introducing,

Tamany Greene

Tamany (she/they) is a 10 year old nonbinary girl living in Pittsburgh in 1989, with her parents and older sister. Tamany is Autistic and otherwise physically disabled due to being born prematurely with heart defects, and uses a walker.

Tamany is an imaginative girl who loves fantasy movies, her favorites being The Neverending Story, Labyrinth, and The Dark Crystal. Fantasy gives her a place to escape from the ableism she faces, and the general medicalization of her life- in fantasy worlds anything can happen, and she can do anything. She isn't stared at and whispered about by strangers in the street, isn't constantly being poked at in doctor's offices and physical therapies, she can be whoever she wants and be loved, be a hero.
