the worst part about being at the beach at night was--well. the fact that it was night. now, mateo enjoyed a good bonfire as much as the next guy, but his problem was that they only provided so much light. it didn’t help he was naturally clumsy, of course, and it being dark only made it ten times worse. as he walked from the bonfire back towards the bar, his eyes focused on the lit area ahead of him, he didn’t notice the person walking past him. he also didn’t notice the flip-flop someone had left in the sand; he stumbled, managing to catch himself before he could fall. what he didn’t manage to do, though, was not spill his drink on the person. “oh my god, i’m so sorry,” he apologized immediately, a nervous smile stretching across his face, “...if it helps, it’s only water?”
