Currently Loving: Baseball Caps

My husband is a huge Minnesota Twins fan, my dad and brothers are die-hard New York Yankee fans, so naturally I love me a good baseball game.  Well baseball caps are in season for the fashionistas as well.  I first noticed baseball hats take the fashion scene last year when I saw them coming down the spring runways. I love how these caps seem to instantly project a subtle and simple sexy-tomboy look. They were a great way to tame my beachy-wavey summer hair, but I am loving them even more for the colder seasons. 

This is a trend that’s pretty easy to wear, just put a hat on and done! Don't be afraid to try it with different outfits. A baseball cap would look just as cool with a ladylike outfit—say, with a button-down blouse instead of my favorite sweatshirt.  Plus, they cover up any bad hair day. But if you want to take this simple cap into a trendsetting accessory then pair it with something dressy or something classic with an edge. There are plenty of ways you can rock this cap without looking like you're next up to bat. 

I recently went to Target and found a great selection of baseball caps! I bought one and I've put it to good use. This hat from Target is such an easy piece to dress up or down, and you can't beat the price for under $11.00! I've worn it with a trendy outfit but also for a quick trip to the grocery store. I love how versatile these all-american caps are!

As you can see in the picture, I have two favorite ways to wear my hair when I rock baseball caps. 1. Down and Natural.  I love the boyish charm that a baseball cap can bring to any outfit, so I prefer to wear my hair as natural as possible. Anything beachy or messy works best. 2. On the side. I love a cute messy ponytail or braid and adding a hat with one is such an easy look! We all know and love the fishtail braid Blake Lively wears so perfectly and I think it would look awesome coming out on the side of a baseball cap.

Friday Five: NY Fashion Week

The Friday Five is celebrating the end of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week for Spring 2014 collections. It was glamorous week filled with fashion-forward trends. Even though we are heading into the colder seasons it definitely had me wanting Spring now! One of the biggest trends I noticed was tailored pieces on almost every runway show! If it weren't for the holidays I'd be ready to wear these Spring trends now! Until then I will be enjoying Pumpkin Spice Lattes and oversized sweaters.

New York Fashion Week

Dun, dun, dun.. The countdown begins. In just 3 days designers will start previewing their Spring 2014 collections on the runway. I can't wait to see what high fashion trends we will be wearing in Spring 2014. The Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week begins on September 5th and ends on the 12th. It will be a week of high fashion runways with one show after another. Holy moly. Freaking out. 

There are so many blogs and websites you can follow to keep you updated. I will be checking newyorkfashionweeklive.com daily. You can watch every show online live! They also have the entire schedule posted on the website with times for each designers show. I won't be watching the entire show but I will be watching a few of my favorite designers. J.Crew, Rachel Zoe and of course Vera Wang are just a few to name. It's going to be awesome. Eek!

The Bucket Bag

A few weeks ago I went to the American Idol Tour concert and had a great time. The group put on a great show and spent a few hours at their meet and great. Snapping pictures with them was the perfect way to end the night. Well, that feeling faded fast when I got back to my car and found it trashed. Of course they stole everything that was worth anything, but why did they have to trash my car? Ugh. Lord bless their little hearts (said in my sweet southern accent). Thank God nothing of big value was stolen but they  did take my every-day purse (omg if it had been my Michael Kors bag I would have went cray cray on them). Thankfully, it was only my $20 Forever 21 bag. But still.. I loved that purse. It was my every day purse. I mean, a woman's attire іѕ not complete іf ѕhе іѕ nоt carrying а matching and suitable purse. So, thanks to my lovely new friends, I am now on the hunt for a new every day purse. There are a few different styles I am loving but the one that has stolen my heart is The Bucket Bag.

The bucket bag combines a utility hands-free vibe with casual chic. With a longer shoulder strap and the body of the bag more spacious than it appears, it is the perfect all-in-one bag. I say it's the bag that does everything. This perfectly polished classic silhouette holds all you need and then some. I think of it as a more refined version of my tried-and-true slouchy hobo bag. Who doesn't love a bag that is both eye-catching and useful? Plus, they seem to go with everything.

Striking the perfect balance between casual and chic, this classic silhouette can look just as cool with your favorite dresses as it does with a pair of laid-back jeans. While the bag is definitely ѕо vеrу stylish, it's also very comfortable as well. It's big enough to carry my current-read, lip gloss, shades, cell phone, cash, wallet, keys аnd mаnу mоrе items, while still staying comfortable.

When shopping for a purse I normally don't spend more than $150.00. I know that may seem too high for some of you, but I normally don't mind spending more money on items I am going to use everyday. Cutoffs for Fall

As a true lover of cutoffs I dread the end of it's wearable season. Even though Fall is my favorite season, it kills me to have to put my cutoffs away until next year. I seriously live in cutoffs during the entire 3 months of summer. Well, this year I am determined to give them a few more weeks of wear once Fall arrives! With just a few weeks left of Summer, my cutoffs are ready to be worn with a flowy tank and sandals. But when temps start to dip you will see me wear them with layered knits and booties.

Here are two ways you can wear your favorite cutoffs into the beginning of the Fall season.

1. Dressed up. Take a peek into my closet and you will find a boyfriend blazer in almost every color. I might have an obsession. So why not pair your favorite cutoffs with a blazer that adds trend to any outfit? Seriously, love it!

2. Dressed down. During the Fall season I basically live in oversized knit sweaters. This outfit combo lets you feel super comfortable without having to put aside style. Knowing me, I would probably wear a bootie with this outfit as well, but I wanted to add another famous Fall trend.. leopard print! 

The possibilities are endless.. from leather jackets to cardigans and scarves! I know I will be keeping my cutoffs out for Fall.. will you?

Photo Diary: Bieber fever

Last week I attended my first Justin Bieber concert. Yes, Justin Bieber. This 23 year old was dancing and singing to every song. It.. was.. awesome. My dates for the night were my hubby Matt, brother Taylor and cousin Shelby. The concert was in Jacksonville so we got to enjoy a road trip as well!

When it came to creating my outfit I followed my own rules, but also took advice from The Bachelorette's Emily Maynard. Her number one concert fashion rule: "No wearing a concert tshirt from the concert you're attending unless you're under the age of 12." and I couldn't agree more. I love every opportunity to show my own personal style. Why would I want to look like the other 10,000 girls in a Justin Bieber tshirt? I'm not saying I didn't buy a shirt while I was there. Trust me, any other day you could find me in a concert tshirt and some cutoffs. However, if you really want to wear a concert tshirt from the concert you're attending then go for it! You are in charge of your own style! 

Here is the shirt I wore. I paired it with ripped boyfriend jeans and a pair of booties. I was ready to rock.

We had killer seats. If you haven't seen the Biebs in concert you definitely should. Sure, he has some maturing to do and needs to cool off the tabloids, but his talent is undeniable. 

Thanks Justin Bieber for putting on one heck of a show.

H&M, it's about time!

Is it just me or has this been a long time coming..

The second largest clothing retailer in the world now offers shipping to the US! Whoa, this is seriously awesome. H&M has offered online shopping in a handful of European countries, but the only way costumers in the US have been able to purchase the brand’s ever-popular affordable clothing was from one of the company’s nearly 300 physical stores. If you follow my Friday Five then you know that H&M is one of my favorite stores to shop. I am a girl who could spend a day at the mall shopping away, but since becoming a mom, online shopping is just so much easier (and very practical)! I can’t tell you how many times I have been saddened that I couldn’t order online from H&M! Now my favorite clothes are just a click away!

I'm baaaaack.

After two months of not blogging, this fashion blogger is finally back. For those of you who read my last post, you would know that my computer charger finally died (a moment of silence please). On top of the charger I was also gone on a 10 day caribbean vacation and selling my house. Yes.. our house sold! So much has happened since I last connected with all of you AG followers, so here is the updated scoop!

1. 4 Year Anniversary Caribbean Cruise. Our vacation last month was relaxing, beautiful and so much fun. My husband and I are cruise junkies and if you follow this blog then you already know that. :) My mother, aunt and younger sister flew to Kansas City to watch my twin boys while we were gone and they had a blast. Our cruise left from New York so we flew out a few days early to see the City! After that it was off to the Caribbean on an 8 day cruise. We stopped at Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Nassau (which is where the famous Atlantis is!). It was our first time to all three port of calls and we loved it all!

2. Moving to Florida! The week we got back from our Caribbean cruise we put our house on the market. Little did we know our house would sell just 2 months later! The official closing date is July 23rd but we will be moving down to Florida on July 7th. I don’t even have the words to describe how I’m feeling. Shocked, relieved, stressed, happy, overwhelmed, thankful, excited and sad? Yes to all of the above. Even though I’ve only lived in Kansas City for 5 years, there is so much that has happened here. Met and fell in love with my now husband, bought our first home here and started our family here with my twin boys. I also found myself knowing Jesus Christ in a way I’ve never known Him. Kansas City has such sweet memories for me. I don’t know how I am going to drive away and close this chapter of my life. I am so thankful to have been a part of the International House of Prayer here for the past 5 years. I am so thankful to have met my best friend, my husband. He is my everything and the friend who keeps me strong. I am so thankful to have healthy 18 month old boys who survived a 10 week early birth and 7 weeks in the NICU at Overland Regional Medical Center. I am forever grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff who took such amazing care of my boys. Finally I am so thankful to have met such amazing friends. I don’t know how I am going to say goodbye to them, but I know these are friendships that will last forever.

Well that’s the scoop. I know so many of you have been emailing and asking when I will start blogging and the answer is now! AG’s Closest will be back to giving you all things fashion starting Monday. :)
