Cat Age Guide

Not a direct match, as nothing really can be, but here’s my personal approximation for cat-human equivalent ages! ^^

The cats of the Fourtrees Fealty track age by months, or “moons”, as cats typically reach growth milestones at the height of each month.

0-1 months = newborn to 1 years old in human time

2 months = 2 human years

3 months = 4 human years

4 months = 6 human years

5 months = 8 human years

6 months = 10 human years; it’s around this time that a cat will begin to form a solid sense of identity for themself

7 months = 12 human years

12 months / 1 year = 16 to 17 human years; it’s around this time that a cat will earn their full names, and are viewed as an “adult” by their community’s standards

18 months / 1 year = 21 human years

24 months / 2 years = 24 human years; up until they turn 2 years old, a cat’s human-equivalent age is equal to that time. Once they turn 2, you add 4 years for every year afterwards!

36 moons / 3 years = 28 human years

48 moons / 4 years = 32 human years

60 moons / 5 years = 36 human years

72 moons / 6 years = 40 human years

84 moons / 7 years = 44 human years

96 moons / 8 years = 48 human years

108 moons / 9 years = 52 human years

120 moons / 10 years = 56 human years

132 moons / 11 years = 60 human years; it’s around this time that a cat is considered “old”, or at least somewhat geriatric. They typically debate retirement around this age

144 moons / 12 years = 64 human years

156 moons / 13 years = 68 human years

168 moons / 14 years = 72 human years

180 moons / 15 years = 76 human years

192 moons / 16 years = 80 human years

195 moons / 17 years = 84 human years

216 moons / 18 years = 88 human years

228 moons / 19 years = 92 human years

240 moons / 20 years = 96 human years

Weird question but, how do you do your cats' ages? I'm. EXTREMELY. bad at timelines. Like really bad. I also hate wide age gaps. So I kinda want to know who was born at x time when y thing happened and also whether this character could have kits with this other one, etc. I've seen you always put your caharcters' ages so, how do you do it? any advice?

OKAY SO-

The way I keep track of cat’s age is more or less typically on par with how regular cats age. I’ve made a crap ton of charts to keep track of that and I’m more than willing to share once they’re finished

But! In the meantime:

Up until they turn 2 years (24 months, and 24 in human time), a cat’s human-equivalent age is equal to that time. Once they turn 2, you add 4 years for every year afterwards. I know that’s a little confusing so I’ve tried to break it down into simpler age beats:

1 moon / month - An infant or newborn.

2 moons / months - A very young child, I’d say between about ages one to three or four.

3 moons / months to 5 moons / months - A five to ten year old child.

6 moons / months - A twelve year old! This is about the time where my cats begin training and figuring themselves out.

7 to 12 moons / months - They age up from this point. 12 months is a year, and at that point regular cats reach sexual maturity, and OFND cats will usually receive their full names around this time. I personally view cats who are 12 moons as around 17-18 years old

18 moons / months - A twenty-one year old.

24 moons / months - Two years old! And 24 in human years! After this point, you add four extra years every year afterwards, so these cats tend to age up quicker.

So a 3 year old cat might be equal to a 28 year old. A 4 year cat would be equal to a 32 year old. And so on and so forth
