Well the first time I went to Disneyland, I was 4 and my parents didn't tell me where we were going (my grandparents live in California so it didn't seem too unusual). When I woke up at our hotel, they took me out on the balcony and told me to look for something to do (there's a home movie of this it's kind of precious ngl) and I'm like rubbing my eyes all sleepy and they point across the street and say "what's that?" and lil sleepy baby me is like "I don't know maybe it's Disneyland." And then I gasp and start freaking out and I'm like IT IS IT IS DISNEYLAND and then I got to meet Minnie Mouse wearing my Minnie Mouse dress. ❤️
your aesthetic is elegant yet simple. not quite understated but minimalistic. it's like a black dress, i guess. you're autumn but also winter. strong and tasteful.
Ain’t got no shame asking me all of them do you? Goddamn. I see you haven’t specified which of my two Inquisitors I should do this for so I did… BOTH! Alright hold on tight here we go.
1. What color best represents them?
- Deitra Adaar: Deitra’s signature colours are black and gold, that ironically don’t only suit her exceedingly well but also Tevinter itself. Gold, a colour associated with wealth and prosperity, power, success, elegance and of course extravagance, couldn’t be more appropriate for someone whose primary drive in life lies in exactly that. Deitra is someone who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. She achieves her set goals against all odds, though often at a great cost of others and without even the mildest trace of compromise or mercy. This brings me to black, the darkened side of the same coin. Decadence. Intentions shrouded in mystery, unclear how much of it is good and how much is evil.
- Kosmikos Trevelyan: Earthly colours, such as sienna, chestnut, oak. They represent simplicity, friendliness, steadfastness and dependability: a great reflection of his personality. Frivolous, superficial matters of nobility that were ever so present in his family have never been his thing. Getting caught up in them always made Kos feel like an outsider. He preferred a direct approach, without décor or pretense. Preferred the sensation of wind in his hair and the rhythmic sound of horse hooves pounding on the muddy forest ground.
2. If they were an animal, which would they be?
- Deitra would probably be one hell of a venemous looking viper the appearance of which alone’d be enough to scare away anyone sane from trying to approach it. If the secret lies solely in its intimidating exterior, no one would ever know. Of course, there is a strong possibility that those who’ve uncovered the truth never lived to tell the tale.
- Kosmikos: A bird of prey, one that adores living in the woods - a large owl (appears imposing due to its size but is actually even-tempered, amiable and wise: a wise owl is a pretty fitting cliche given his namesake). Or alternatively, a hunter’s companion hound. Loyal but adventurous, never keen on staying in one place for too long.
3. Which music genre would best describe your Inquisitor?
- Deitra: Quiet, ethereal folk tunes played on the Byzantine lyra with electronic synth rock undertones
- Kosmikos: Flute music, tribal drums, harpsichord dance suites/fantasias interrupted by random bouts of agonized screaming
4. What season reflects their personality best?
- Deitra: Scorching hot summer, the kind capable of causing ferocious wild fires at any moment.
- Kosmikos: The brink of autumn, when fallen leaves start to crunch under one’s feet in the early mornings because they are covered in a thin layer of frost, days when the sharp chill in the air makes you feel excited for no apparent reason. Kos’ clear headedness and infectious enthusiasm tends to leave this sort of impression on people.
5. If your Inquisitor was a force of nature, what kind would they be? (hurricane, earthquake, etc.)
- Deitra: An avalanche.
- Kosmikos: Thunderstorm. A fierce, invigorating thunderstorm, the kind welcome after a dry summer season.
6. What’s their alignment? (chaotic good, neutral evil, etc.)
- Deitra: Chaotic neutral/neutral evil at the worst of times.
- Kosmikos: Neutral good/true neutral
7. Which element best describes them?
- Deitra: Water.
- Kosmikos: Air
8. What scent would they be associated with, if any?
- Deitra: The musky aroma of incense, ancient paper in dust-covered tomes.
- Kosmikos: Freshly chopped firewood and the metallic scent of polished, well cared for silverite armour.
9. Do they have a background story?
- Deitra: Following a devastating sea battle that occured in the waters between Tevinter and Seheron, a small, lightly armed ship was sent out from Minrathous in an attempt to search for any survivors/document the tale of what transpired. Severe damage was suffered on both sides which consequently left little to no trace of the famed Qunari dreadnoughts or Tevinter cruisers, for that matter. Only rubble remained, and this made ‘finding’ anything of value in it a very difficult task indeed. The single supervising magister on board grew more and more frustrated with the passing of days. Just as the mission was on the verge of being deemed hopeless by the rest of the crew, he abruptly declared that they should move in closer to examine what looked like a broken off bowsprit on the horizon, one that seemed to have formerly belonged to a Qunari dreadnought.
It was then that they spotted her: a fragile looking kossith child no older than five, clinging to wet plank of wood amid the chaos of the wreckage, abandoned and forgotten by its own people.
This obviously came as a bit of a shock to everyone, nobody had expected to be faced with something quite so inconvenient. A Qunari adult survivor could have readily been sold into slavery or killed if they refused to surrender. Reluctantly they took her on board but next came the unanimous question: surely something should be done?
The ship’s captain was strongly opposed to the idea of a Qunari in their midst. Another member of the crew had ties with slavers, and insisted he should bring her along with him. A heated argument ensued and at the first given chance, one of the sailors ran at the young kossith with a knife “to hell with it, let’s be done once and for all” - only to be shot straight through his chest by a bolt of hot lightning. Lighting that came from the child’s hands.
The magister was in awe. So were the others, but it was he who invited her to stay in his quarters for the entirety of the journey back to the homeland and the rest was history.
He made the choice of raising her as one of his own, practically adopting her as his own daughter and naming her Deitra. She was allowed to live in the same mansion as the rest of his family, was taught to speak Tevene and proved herself to be a very fast learner. Being born a naturally gifted mage with magic already present at such an extraordinarily early age granted her a prestigious opportunity to study at Minrathous’ Circle of Magi.
It wasn’t long before she steadily maneuvered her way up to the top of the social ladder, no stranger to death and deception as she was. Well suited to life in such a brutal, ruthless, and power-hungry society. In fact, she became a master at manipulation and loved the thrill of it all.
The Magisterium made good use of her too by sending her out on special missions to Seheron to spy on the Qunari (because damn, who would be a better agent to unleash upon one’s enemy than somebody who looks like said enemy)
---------------------------
- Kosmikos: A Free Marcher noble by blood, Kosmikos was fortunate enough to be born into all of the luxuries upper-class life had to offer. Wealth, respect, political power, it was all there waiting for him. It would seem that the man had more than what any commoner could ever dream of in their wildest dreams let alone hope for… if only it weren’t the epitome of everything he despised. Kos had no love for the superficial, and no love for political schemes and dealings. But above all else, he valued the kind of freedom nobility had no place for.
As soon as he hit his teens, he started dreading the idea of having to marry some stranger from another upper-class family exclusively because it was expected of him. He would have none of that, and shortly after his fifteenth birthday announced that he would depart from his motherland to live with the other half of his family in Orlais and potentially realize his long time wish of becoming a chevalier.
There was only one problem. It was around the same time that Kos begun noticing distinct signs of magical talent within himself. He never told his family, able to conceal them with the practiced will of a soldier, but one slip-up during sword practice had him thrown into the Circle.
This completely crushed him, have all his dreams be thrown out the window like that. Luckily, it didn’t end there, and he never got the chance to stay in the Circle for more than a couple of weeks: in part because during the time he spent in it he buried his powers even deeper, never allowing himself to make the same foolish mistake again all the while simultaniously convincing everyone he didn’t belong there, that it was nothing but a misunderstanding (it was here that he learned to fully master his control over the ”Maker-cursed” gift).
And it worked. Besides, the perk of possessing such a countless number of important, noble relatives is that they have leverage. Together, they managed to convince the First Enchanter that it was all a ploy to give the Trevelyans a bad name.
So out of the Circle and straight to Orlais he went. Life with his uncle in his estate on the edge of the Arbor Wilds, those were some of the happiest years of his life. Kos’s uncle, Monsieur Pierre Jaunet, used to be a chevalier himself and taught the young man well. It came as a bit of a dissapointment when, several years later, after moving to Val Royeaux Kosmikos finally joined the chevaliers and found it to be nothing at all like what he had anticipated. There was corruption among the order and little trace of the legendary Chevalier honour.
He left the chevaliers, and started travelling Thedas on his own.
10. Do they have any family?
- Deitra: Any biological family she may have had, she doesn’t remember them and wouldn’t have remembered even if she for whatever reason never ended up on that dreadnought in the first place, remaining with “her people” in Seheron instead. Such is the case with most of those born into the Qun.
- Kosmikos: Has so many relatives that his head spins trying to remember all of their names at his thoroughly well-hated, despised family gatherings. His parents he respects, on the other hand, and is on relatively good terms with his father who in his younger years used to be a bit of a vigilante, quite like Kos himself although the former would never admit it outwardly. He also has two older brothers who are, according to Kosmikos, “far too stuck-up and interested only in boring rich nobility drivel for their own good”. But by far the closest person in his family, the person he loves most dearly is no one else than his Orlesian uncle Pierre Jaunet.
11. Are they better with children, animals, or neither?
- Deitra: Isn’t particularly good with children, doesn’t possess a single ounce of patience for them. Neither is she all too fond of animals in the general sense (keep your mabari out of her sight at all costs!!) but DOES, however, have a deep affinity for exotic lizards and snakes.
- Kosmikos: Loves both kids and animals alike but is wary of nugs due to an unfortunate incident that occured long ago, once upon a time back when Kos was still a little boy.
12. What’s the Inquisitor’s favorite food?
- Deitra: Fresh, exquisitely prepared sea delicacies and wine.
- Kosmikos: Anything cooked by his beloved uncle Pierre, in particular his house speciality: pine nut steak. Kos also severely dislikes anything that comes from Ferelden.
13. Can they cook?
- Deitra: Contrary to what might be perceived as popular belief, Deitra is an excellent cook (being well acquainted with the finest chef in Minrathous does have its benefits) although you would certainly never find her down in the kitchens with the house servants.
- Kosmikos: Can prepare a nice practical meal now and then but never anything too fancy. Back at his family manor in the Free Marches he always skipped any cooking classes in favour of sparring with his friends out in the courtyard.
14. Do they have any hobbies?
- Deitra: Adores reading. Literature upon literature (often of the academic nature: spell tomes, ancient manuscripts, anything that could benefit her/strengthen her powers in some way or other), more literature, attending or hosting lavishly grand parties, making associates, rivals and enemies alike quiver in fear on their knees before her.
- Kosmikos: Finds freedom in the outdoors, in travelling long distances on horseback, from one forest to the other, from the Arbor Wilds that he considers home to the Hinterlands and freedom is what truly matters most to the man. He prizes the simple pleasures in life, and also has a passion for writing/performing music. Occasionally.
15. Are they very fashion-conscious or more practical?
- Deitra: The sort of life she leads requires one to be fashion-concious first and foremost, much less so functional when it comes to clothing. Living among the highest of elite, in a place where festivities are perpetual and privacy almost non-existant: a public display, a stage for others to ogle or gossip about makes this a hardly surprising fact. It’s something she has grown up with, the dramatic make-up, the priceless furs and leathers that are not so much a camouflage as they are a part of her persona.
- Kosmikos: Practical to the core however not above an occasional hint of style here and there if possible. With noble families on both sides it’s not quite right for someone to be raised without least some knowledge in fashion.
16. Are they neat or unorganized?
- Deitra: While seemingly neat and orderly on the outside, one step into her private study would prove otherwise. That is a place where her chaotic nature rightly makes an appearance in the form of piles of messily stacked tomes, vials containing potions, suspicious looking uncompleted experiments.
- Kosmikos: Although he would likely never admit this to anyone, it was Kos’s noble upbringing that made sure he was neat beyond belief. Spotlessly clean quarters, attire, and perhaps most notably the glistening, brightly polished armour and weapons that you’d never see an old blotch of dirt or blood on.
17. Who do you think they’ll get along with best among their companions, if any?
- Deitra: Will without question have a hard time being liked by anyone in the Inquisition at first, even that remains temporarily. Her motives have a high chance of being second-guessed by everyone and she has a very peculiar aura of cold determination about her, the kind that makes her a respectfully feared leader, not someone to me messed around with and certainly not someone who might be considered a ‘friend’ unless you are either naive or stupid.
This said, Deitra might take a positive interest towards particular individuals: one of them being Cole. She would unboubtedly find Cole fascinating, having had extensive experience with spirits and demons throughout her whole life and never before encountering one quite like him is in her mind preposterous. She’d assume an almost motherly attitude towards him, yet… i think it goes without saying that the relationship is prone to being very one-sided at best because Cole would be wary of someone who uses their talents to benefit themselves rather than help others.
Furthermore, an eventual friendship between her Dorian might be possible but would require her to see past her own selfishness, set aside her loyalties to the Imperium’s worst, acknoweldge the Tevinter’s faults at least to an extent and that is not an easy feat.
- Kosmikos: Won’t have trouble getting along with anyone as long as they don’t intend on dressing him up in aristocratic garb and dragging him back to a palace in order to rule, drowning the poor man in politics.
He generally loves people, tries to uncover at least something worth loving about everybody and seeks out to light a spark of happiness and positivity even in the dullest, most irredeemable of the crowd. Varric and Cassandra have a good chance of being some of his dearest companions. He also has a lot of respect for selflessness, for honour and boldness, those who strive to protect those in need from evil which gives out the impression that he and Blackwall will eminently be close.
18. Who will they romance, if anyone?
- Deitra: Has had her fair share of both women and men but is far more attracted to women, especially those that come close to being her equals in intellect as well as looks and willpower. Vivienne meets that criteria, although if any sort of relationship will be possible between them still remains to be seen. Same applies to others.
- Kosmikos: Dorian
19. Do they have any scars? What are they from?
- Deitra: Doesn’t have many visible scars, that with her ability to heal them should they ever occur, although there is… a curious one however. A thin line around her neck usually covered by high collars or shawls. She would never tell anyone where it came from under any circumstances, but it is most probably from before her life in Tevinter.
- Kosmikos: Plenty, traces left by wounds from where an arrow pierced his armour here and there, swords, spears. Most are unsurprisingly from his time at the Academie des Chevaliers where the training was brutal and unforgiving.
20. If they met, how would your Inquisitor get along with your Warden? Your Hawke?
Already been answered here!!
21. What’s your Inquisitor’s opinion on each of the various races, if any?
- Deitra: Dislikes Qunari, not for their race but their for ideology, for what they stand for. This obviously includes non-kossith Qunari. Due to her own upbrining, Deitra has acquired a very particular view on race: she considers it utterly irrelevant. She would never misjudge an elf based on their frail appearance or a dwarf because their small size compared to herself. After all, she grew up out-maneuvering sly little humans all her life.
- Kosmikos: Has a lot of sympathy towards elves, thinks that all dwarfs are essentially okay but harbor some sort of a hidden agenda, and that Qunari are misguided.
24&30 already answered!8. Favorite film from 2007? I really liked No Country for Old Men, but I'm trash so I'll say Sweeney Todd. It's my happy movie what can I say.
14. A movie that made you uncomfortable and why The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Swedish or English. I think it really says enough. They're good movies, but I always need to pause and collect myself or skip a scene.
