“You know,” you said, as if he would respond. He didn’t, and so you continued. “I think I love you.”

The doubt in your voice frightens even yourself and you know that, if he was awake, he would have questioned it. He would have asked you whyyou think that, why you aren’t sure of it. To that, you really wouldn’t have ananswer, because you honestly don’t know, and this fact scares you.

“It’s…” you pause, try to think of a good description, buteverything you come up with sounds ridiculous. He isn’t awake, but you think he’llwake up and punch you in the face for ever comparing your love to the way thestars love the night sky, or the way a prince loves a princess, or the waylittle kids love lollipops. It all sounds senseless, and so you sigh a little. “…it’sstrange. Different. A good different, but…”

But what?

You look over at him, smile a little to yourself at thesight; he’s fast asleep, and you’re so happy about this. Proud, almost, exceptyou refuse to take credit for this.

“Shit, you’re beautiful.” you say it very quietly, maybejust above a whisper, and you vow to never say it again.

You watch him for a bit, as if to anchor yourself. As if toperhaps remind yourself that he is real, that he is sleeping, that he loves youjust as much as you love him, except you still aren’t exactly sure of that lastone. Hm.

“I love you.” you mumble, and it feels right. Somehow. Andso, you say it again. “I love you.”
