Planning Ahead
So...I'm headed rapidly towards 900 followers, and what does that mean?? Well, I'm less than 200 from 1,000!

Hopefully I'm not bothering you, but the photog from your last shoot was chatting and said you're great to work with. Said you know the character well, pose well and so on. I'm having my first few cosplay shoots in a couple weeks. I was just wondering if you have any advice for posing well, knowing your character or anything else? (I know, this is kind of a weird question XD)
Get a mirror and start making faces. Or even better, selfies. Take lots of selfies. TAKE SO MANY SELFIES.
The point is to just get down expressions that you think work well for the character, and also to figure out from what angle said expressions look okay. Because yo, expressions usually aren't one-pose-fits-all for camera angles. See how to adjust slightly for when a photographer's lens is above or below you. The phone selfies help with that since a forward facing camera is live feedback. Unless I've been very specifically directed into a certain angle, I know I have some bad angles so I try to follow the camera lens very slightly/pick up my chin/set shoulders a bit further back/ etc depending on where they are. Levi... it's awful, I have two "favorite" angles for him and I think it's pretty obvious, but hey.
For posing, hit the mirror. "Knowing the character" is as simple as "If you stuck the character on five different posters, how would they be posed?" Heck, find existing posters. Look for fanart. Save ones with poses you like and try to replicate them. Don't be afraid to interact with your environment, either.
