Daken had toys as a child, or he did until he murdered his adopted brother and adopted mother, and watched his adopted father commit suicide. Then Romulus took him in, and toys were a thing of the past.
He never regrets it, never misses it, and certainly never understands why others would.

1. Maria never had many toys growing up. Her father couldn't be bothered to buy her more than absolutely necessary to shut up the little old gossip mongering ladies at the markets.
2. She does have a teddy bear in safe storage that was in her crib waiting for her as a baby. She thinks it was from her mother, bought before the woman's death, but really it was bought by her father, who never bothered to take it away from the child he no longer wanted.
