I've just spent the last couple of days reading Genealogies of Silence after putting it off for months, and wow. It's such a powerful and important fic. I've now read all of your Trinian's fics. They really are the best around.

Oh, thank you so much!  I really appreciate it.  Genealogies was by far the hardest fic I've ever written and, having several more years of education under my belt, there is a TON I would fix if I could, but I think it still holds up reasonably well, all things considered.  I'm really glad that you were able to get to it, because I know it isn't necessarily a happy story to read (though I maintain that, while not a happy story, it is a hopeful story).  Thank you so much for reading, and I'm blushing all around about your comment. :-)

I know deep down I don’t want to give writing up, not at all. I want to make a career on it. But that’s unrealistic. I’m not going to do freelance or be an author overnight. I just don’t see the point. Might as well give up and be a teacher. Ugh.

Again, I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but pursuing a dream is really fulfilling and you deserve to have a shot at it. Writing demands a lot of effort and time so I understand if you want to settle down in a more stable career and then pursue writing. It's an alternative. There are so many artists and writers out there who gave up at some point and then later on gave another shot and built a career on what they loved! Why can't we? I know it seems unrealistic and maybe it is, but things are always going to be hard. I prefer to walk through a hard path knowing that the rewarding will be worth it if I succeed than giving up now. It would be my biggest "what if?" and I don't think I can live with that :p

You're still young Katie, and I really think you should try. However, the decision is yours. And I know that in the current world we live in, living your dream is hard and may lead to many disappointments, and that money and fame are important things to survive, so I completely understand if this puts some weight on your decision. I just think you would be happier as a writer and all I want is for you to be happy.
