I can help you out with that! Shazam was Captain Marvel a long time ago, when DC wanted to use the Marvel bandwagon for themselves. They let the copyright lapse, however, and Marvel stole it creating "Carol Danvers" (like a certain Supergirl we all know). DC's Captain Marvel ran in a series called Shazam, so people already kinda thought that was his name anyway ���� so he was rebranded and here we are!
Ah gotcha, so Shazam is what we should be calling him these days. Well that’s far less confusing.
