A friendly acquaintance informed me that a church a few blocks from my workplace has a basement rummage sale every Wednesday and Saturday. “It’s mostly junk but I saw a few cameras there last week” he told me.
Today I went to investigate it myself.
Amidst a ton of baby clothes, plastic butter dishes, Veggie Tales VHS’s and raked Jerry Vale records-there they were. A 1970s Kodak Instamatic 126 with seized shutter, a 1980s Poloroid Land OneStep Camera with a cracked and wobbly lens…AND THIS! An Agfa Click from the 1950s and its case. It looked clean as a bell. “There’s no way it’s working” I said to myself but figured I’d fire the shutter anyway before cursing myself for taking time away from getting a bite to eat. And it fired as it should.
The lady at the desk told me everything was half price because they are in the process of clearing out the room because they need the space for other functions. The camera was not marked. She told me two bucks. I gave her five dollar bill and told her to keep the change. I now have this bakelite box loaded with Kodak 100 T Max 120 film and waiting to take it for a spring day walk in the next few days.
