SUMMARY → Gracie and Hugo offer each other support as they let Professor X cast the Unforgivable Curses on them. Written for aghprompt30.

GRACIE: 

Gracie had told Hugo she’d meet him at the spot in front of Professor X’s office, and she’d been pacing the hallways for at least half an hour, waiting for their arranged time. She’d been thinking about the Unforgivable Curses ever since the euphoria of winning the Quidditch cup had worn off -- and even before then, if she was being truly honest. Now, though, it was staring her right in the face, and Gracie knew this was it: she had to prove she had what it took, and that she deserved to be the leader of Umbra once and for all.

During one of her laps of the floor, Hugo must have showed up, because the next time she wandered towards X’s office, there he was. Normally, Gracie was strong and silent, but without even thinking about it, or considering any awkwardness, she reached out and grabbed Hugo’s hand, squeezing it for good measure as she greeted him. “You ready for this?” she asked her best friend, nodding towards the gargoyle that would admit them to the Headmaster’s office. She hated the idea of seeing Hugo in any pain, but she knew it was necessary -- and that he was the only one who wanted to prove himself almost as much as she did.
