This is a pochoir plate from the exquisite early Art Deco portfolio by Janine Aghion, illustrating the Joys of the Day. Aghion was an illustrator and fashion designer, starting her career with renowned couturier Paul Poiret in Paris in the Teens. Aghion's style was in the avant-garde, with cubistic geometry, vibrant fields of color and extremely elongated figures that bordered on pure abstraction. This 15 plate portfolio of a woman in different activities throughout the day is one of the joys of Jazz Age fashion illustration. This plate is very rare - #76 of an edition of 150. (x)

Mokyr, Aghion and Howitt win Nobel Prize in economics for work on innovation-driven growth

The Nobel memorial prize in economics was on Monday awarded to Joel Mokyr, Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt for “having explained innovation-driven economic growth”. The winners were credited with better quantifying “creative destruction,” a key concept in economics that refers to the process in which beneficial new innovations replace – and thus destroy – older technologies and businesses.
