everything tagged 1000 destiel fics in 2021
well, I did it!! last weekend I hit my goal of reading 1000 destiel fanfics in 2021.
I finished a few weeks early, so my spreadsheet looks like this now:
it’s very funny to me that this spreadsheet is nonsense now that I’ve reached my goal. if I want to be at exactly 1000 by December 31, I will have to unread 0.47 fics per day.
so let’s get to forgetting!!!!
jk, I have more recs. I’ve decided I’ll continue doing rec lists for the last few weeks this year. why not, I’m still reading! I’m considering doing a down to agincourt book club next year, comment if you’re interested in joining.

Mouth to Manhattan by @s11e17
I loved this, like I love all a_good_soldier fics, which is why I deliberately made it #1000. it was mostly about Sam, but the background Dean/Cas was awesome. I actually want to share a quote from it, if you’ll indulge me.
[Dean’s] with Cas because they want each other so bad not even God could keep ‘em apart, but there on the flip side is his relationship with Sam: he’s Sam’s brother because God wanted a brother-story. He’s Sam’s brother because God thought it would be interesting to make two clay figures and push them into each other and then pull them apart to make new creatures that couldn’t learn to live without the pieces of themselves that were in the other.
Dinosaurs, Octopi, and Other Things With Feathers by Balder12
the SPN fandom is so funny. the rec above this one is from 2021 while this one is from 2012.
Castiel had seen how happy Dean was without really understanding why, and ever since he’d been bringing Dean souvenirs: an iridescent blue-green feather from a bird on Mount Everest, a Roman coin from Italy, an orchid from the Amazonian rain forest. Dean told himself that he thought it was funny, but he kept them, anyway, hidden in a ziplock bag beneath his porn mags, where Sam would never look.
Tall Grass by @gravelghosts
I’ve had this in my bookmarks all year, but didn’t get around to it until this week. it’s a classic for a reason, and I really enjoyed it. I’ve got Strandlines in my bookmarks as well.
while I’m reading fic, I’m continuing to beta @castielcommunism’s penny & pound. read it if you haven’t!
ok have a good week, everyone.
