Jo Ahearne is an English woman making classic Croatian wines on the small island of Hvar off the Adriatic coast. We previously posted about her brilliant skin-contact white wine and today I have to rave about her Plavac Mali. I was looking for something to pair with 24-hour sous vídeo pork ribs - and this bottle caught my eye. It was so impressive! Plavac Mali is genetically a varietal offspring of Zinfandel. On the nose, there was so much going on - explosion of red fruit, baking spice, earth, and all that came through on the palate as well. Such a spicy wine, incredibly long finish, just what I expect from a an excellent Plavac.
