Plavac Mali vineyards in Postup, Pelješac Peninsula, Southern Dalmatia
Have you had a Plavac Mali before? If there was an “official” red grape of Croatia it would be Plavac Mali, an indigenous grape. And if there was a classic region for Plavac vineyards, it would be the Peljesac Peninsula. This 2014 Edivo Plavac is a great example of how this wine should be made, with grapes grown in Peljesac. A beautifully dense wine. Chalky, earthy, tannic, blueberry and blackberry. Balanced and a long finish. ——————————————————— #wine #croatia #croatianwine #winesofcroatia #plavacmali #plavac #peljesacpeninsula #peljesac #winetime #winegeek #winenerd #wineo #wineoclock https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu6RR5-nQhS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=12sj3yohilfam
Komarna 7 2016 Made of pure Plavac Mali from all 7 wineries of Komarna Region. Certified organic Eye: dark purple Nose: sour and black cherry, black currant, after a bit of aeration cloves. Palate, red and black cherry, cacao, good freshness, tannins still a bit sharp but softening, long finish with a persistent spicy sensation (cloves and black pepper) An excellent wine. Better to wait until the end of 2020.🇭🇷
Jo Ahearne makes this beautiful wine from grapes grown on the tiny island of Hvar off Croatia’s Dalmatian coast. This 2014 “South Side” red wine (98% Plavac mali and 2% Merlot) is always a favorite. So aromatic, bursting with fruit, but not the way we would mean that with, say, a California Zin. There is so much earth, acid, tannin here playing with the fruit to deliver a rich taste. Jo is a Master of Wine - and a master of wine. ——————————————————- #croatia #croatianwine #plavacmali #winesofcroatia #croatiafulloflife #croatiafullofwine #instawines #winestagram #wine #vino #winelover #winetasting #winetime #wineoclock https://www.instagram.com/p/CGNekJVH5Oa/?igshid=o7bibbtyeh84
Quality control means drinking the wines you sell from time to time to make sure they meet your rigorous standards. This 2009 Korta Katarina Reuben’s Private Reserve is 100% Plavac Mali and 100% delicious. When first opened it had a bit of oxidation on the nose so I let it sit for a bit. When I went back to it, it was very lively - lots of red and black fruit, herbs, a hint of chocolate. On the palate, still nice and spicy with tannic structure. $60 in our web wine store. This wine would hold its own against any 2009 Napa red at this price. ——————————————————- #croatia #croatiawine #croatianwine #winesofcroatia #plavacmali #kortakatarina #kortakatarinawinery #croatiafulloflife #croatiafullofwine #redwine #redwinelover #vino #wine #wineboss https://www.instagram.com/p/B9HrECBJXh5/?igshid=1h9it7q44dhoi
Jo Ahearne is an English woman making classic Croatian wines on the small island of Hvar off the Adriatic coast. We previously posted about her brilliant skin-contact white wine and today I have to rave about her Plavac Mali. I was looking for something to pair with 24-hour sous vídeo pork ribs - and this bottle caught my eye. It was so impressive! Plavac Mali is genetically a varietal offspring of Zinfandel. On the nose, there was so much going on - explosion of red fruit, baking spice, earth, and all that came through on the palate as well. Such a spicy wine, incredibly long finish, just what I expect from a an excellent Plavac. It was a cool evening so I dusted off the fire pit and opened a bottle of 2013 Edivo Plavac Mali from Croatia. ———————————————— This Edivo wine is made from grapes sourced from steep hillside vineyards on the Peljesac Peninsula, a few meters from the Adriatic Sea. This Plavac Mali is a classic representation of what we consider to be the "national" red grape, native to Croatia. ———————————————— Alcohol: 15.5% Tasting notes: In trademark Plavac Mali form, this wine explodes with fruit, red and black currant in particular, with a complement of cloves, cinnamon, sweet spices, cedar, and carob. This wine is juicy and ripe but balanced with mineral and earthiness. Fine polished tannins contribute to a wonderfully long finish. ————————————————- #plavacmali #plavac #winesofcroatia #peljesac #peljesacpeninsula #croatia #croatiawine #redwinelovers #pelješac #peljesacwine #vinarija #edivowines #edivo #edivovina (at Mare Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/B03kqaNHhYJ/?igshid=1pkkkm34nfqxf
Ribs. Steak. Spicy duck sausage. What to pair with this range of bbq options? How about this 2015 Saints Hills Plavac Mali? This wine - which I sell - is so earthy, rustic, the way a Zinfandel-like wine should taste. Only 13.5-% alcohol. Acidic, funky, the way this grape (the parent of Zin) should taste. ———————————————— #plavacmali #plavac #saintshillswinery #winesofcroatia #croatianwine #croatianwines #redwine #redwinelover #vinotinto #vinarija #croatia #croatiafulloflife #croatiafullofwine #foodandwine #bbqandwine https://www.instagram.com/p/Bznt5Ian00v/?igshid=oawczln4pzdb
