𝜗𝜚 darius vogel episode 0 story. his p.o.v. .ᐟ cw — a couple of sexist lines (?)
——Darius' POV——
[BLACK]
The more obedient they were, the better.
[GERMANY - THRONE ROOM - DAY]
Darius: Well, I'll be off for England, but don't go doing things you're not supposed to do while I'm away, okay?
I turned on my heels in the audience chamber, a smile playing on my lips.
German Emperor: W-wait! You have yet to give me your predictions!
I walked toward the exit, without so much as turning to the voice calling to my back.
Darius: But just some time ago you deployed the army without talking with me first, didn't you.
Darius: And you tried to order a new gun at the military factory where some humans in Vogel work, too.
German Emperor: That…I was simply hoping to get new equipment for the palace soldiers—
Darius: If that's the case you ordered quite a hefty amount. Do you want to start a war or something?
German Emperor: !
I probably hit the bull's eye, because the emperor was rendered speechless.
(An attempt to purge the opposing power in the country would be normal, I imagine…)
(But seeing he didn't speak with me on this matter…would mean he's likely thinking to rebel against me.)
Once more, to make him understand the difference in our power, I only turned my head with a smile to the emperor.
Darius: Oh, but I don't give my predictions to bad humans. Even more so— if they are so low they don't know their place.
The emperor paled the next moment, begging for my forgiveness.
German Emperor: Darius, please forgive me, I—
Darius: You know, there is nothing I despise more than a human who won't admit their mistakes.
I took out the very gun the emperor had tried to order from my pocket, pointing it at him.
German Emperor: —!
And then I put my finger on the trigger— and pulled it.
[SCREEN FLASHES WHITE]
Darius: Bang.
The audience chamber returned to silence. The emperor fell to his knees, but no bullet pierced through his body.
German Emperor: Huh…
Darius: Surprised? It's an empty gun.
I threw the unloaded gun on the floor.
The emperor confirmed its contents were empty, but seeing tears run down his face and snot hanging from his nose was truly a foolish sight.
Darius: That's what you get for trying to defy me. （＾ν＾）
I once again turned for the exit, placing my hand upon the door.
Darius: Be sure to spend your days sleepless from anxiety until my return.
Darius: …Ahh, and this nearly slipped my mind. (O_O)
Darius: Do you love me?
The emperor's lips trembled as he weaved his words.
German Emperor: Y-yes, of course…"I love you."
I sneered as I always did at that empty "I love you."
Darius: —You liar.
[BLACK]
Unmoving honey-colored eyes stained in despair.
[SHIP - OUTDOOR DECK - DAY]
My heart pounded from anticipation in the boat set for England.
(I can finally meet William! The one and only William Rex!)
The meeting with the one I had always longed to meet to the point I could hardly bear it was now near.
And barely able to contain my excitement, I was at the ship deck since morning, hoping to catch sight of the land where he was soon.
(The emperor had ruined my mood…but surely I'll have wonderful encounters in England.)
Like William and Crown, but also encounters with other Cursed ones I've yet to see may also be awaiting me.
There was no doubt future family was over there. Just then the thin silhouette of my shadow stretched and I could see the port.
Darius: Just a little more and we'll be in the in the country where he's at.
Now in a good mood, I started humming a tune— when something from the port came flying this way.
Darius: A robin?
It was a small robin.
Perching itself on top of a handrail before me, it tilted its small neck to look up at me.
(Come to think of it, robins are beloved birds in England, aren't they?)
They had tiny and round bodies, soft and fluffy fur, small beady eyes, and their legs were unexpectedly long.
I've never seen one up close, and as I observed it, it rested its chin on my fingers that were on the rail.
Darius: …You're a wild animal, and yet look at you, so accustomed to people.
Seeing its eyes narrow pleasantly as I stroked below its chin, my interest piqued and I placed it gently atop my fingers.
When I did, it happily started to rub its body against my hand.
And finding some amusement in that, I decided to play with it for a while.
Darius: As I thought, tamed animals are better. They're obedient little things that would never rebel; they would be cherished more.
The robin: Pii!
Darius: You think so too? The emperor could really learn a thing or two from you, then. It's like the difference in our status is just beyond him.
Darius: And here I am, more than willing to take care of him if he just responded when I called out to him and did the things he's told without a fuss.
The robin: Pii.
Though the way the robin replied gave an impression we could communicate, it couldn't utter any words.
And even if it could, that didn't necessarily mean it could understand my words.
(…But still, it would be better if they could my words did get through.)
A sudden thought occurred to me as I petted the robin.
Darius: Maybe I'll get myself a human pet when I arrive in England.
The robin: Pi?
Darius: A pet with charm like yourself would be great. One who's tame and obedient…someone who listens only to what I say.
Darius: If they aren't intelligent enough, though, we can't communicate. So, one decent on that front too.
Darius: Ah, and I would prefer females over males too. Human males tend to be more violent, aren't used to being ruled over, so that could spell out trouble… [1]
Darius: So maybe I should choose an obedient female human.
At some point while talking to myself, the port approached before me.
Darius: Ah. (O_O)
And the robin, having realized this, flew off from my finger.
Darius: You know, if you were really my pet, I wouldn't have allowed you to fly off like that.
The moment I let out that murmur, I heard two sets of footsteps approaching.
Ring: Dari, we've arrived.
Nica: You can go see the red king now.
At my family's calling, I turned around, walking toward them with a smile playing on my lips.
(Yep, I'll go get myself a pet while staying in England.)
I walked past the twins, and they walked on either side of me, as if refraining themselves.
The positions were the same, but the land was different from usual. In the place where the one I looked up to resided,
we had but one thing to do.
Darius: Now then, let's go and grow our "family."
[BLACK]
It would be after that when I would come to know…
…of an "I love you"— that was not empty, and filled with warmth.

[1] Darius uses [雄] (osu) and [雌] (mesu) here in this line and the next to refer to “male” and “female” respectively. The caveat here is that these terms are used for animals and plants…not humans, where the correct terms would be [男] (otoko) and [女] (onna). So, yes, if these couple lines sound “off” to you— that was intentional, and that is why.
