Madaparty 2025 — Theme 11: Lemurs

The "Lemurs", as they are sometimes referred to, are gang members who rose to prominence in the Central City underground scene after a bloody succession struggle.

Julien (thirteenth of his name and twelfth of his siblings) was one of the Penguins' most faithful repeat buyers back when they were still conducting heists. As previously mentioned, he also hired them from time to time to steal items from under other collectors' noses.

Additional ramblings under the cut.

Although Julien has many siblings, most of them are deceased. A good few died in childhood or to murder. He was blessed enough to survive thanks to his caretaker and bodyguard's keen eyes.

Said caretaker, Maurice, has been with him since he was a child. He finds it difficult to leave, despite all the headaches Julien gives him. Julien's bodyguard, Clover, is his closest confidant and the one he'd turn to on particularly stressful days.

Mort is... nobody is really sure what Mort is. But he came to America with the other two and has stuck himself to Julien's side since. He is at times surprisingly good at what he does, though bets up if it's due to skill or luck.

At a friend's suggestion, I modeled Mort largely after actor Deep Roy. Maurice I had to do over twice because his initial design came out a little too... soft? In a "this is a character you'd find in a story with no stakes" way. In a slice of life AU it would've been fine, but not in this one.

People think when I say that I dislike Sonya the bear because I'm a filthy Jaurice-loving fujoshi, which while true, is not the reason. It is rather that in the Madagascar franchises women are either forced to be supporting roles for the male mcs, crazy ladies who hate the male mcs or in the case of characters like Sonya and also Zora: the muscular barbarian that the mcs only like as a gag rather than a genuine dynamic.

Like it is really dissapointing bc dreamworks can write female characters!! Especially nowadays, but all my fav ladies kinda got the short end of the stick because of the fact they were girls written in the early 2000s. Like even characters like Clover, who was written later on and therefore can get genuine character expansion gets morphed into these male-centered supportive gfs and it REALLY SUCKS!! BC YOU SEE THE MALE CHARACTERS AND HOW GREAT THEIR STORIES ARE AND THEN U GET THE ALREADY SMALL CAST OF GIRLS AND THEY'RE ALL LOVE INTERESTS OR CRAZY LADIES!!!!! I CANT STAND IT ANYMORE!!!!! FREE ALL OF MY GIRLS !!! FREE THEM NOW!!!

AND DONT SAY "OH ITS NOT THAT DEEP" BC THE FRANCHISE TACKLES SO MANY TOPICS!!! U CANT HAVE A WHOLE SECOND MOVIE ABOUT THE AFRICAN DIASPORA AND LEARNING TO ACCEPT UR QUEER CHILDREN AND STILL NOT KNOW HOW TO WRITE WOMEN!!! MULTIPLE EPISODES ABOUT POLITICAL CORRUPTNESS/WAR/ AND IT'S EFFECTS AND NOT KNOW HOW TO WRITE MUSCULAR WOMEN AS ANYTHING OTHER THAN A GAG!!! YOU REALLY CANT!! YOU CAN'T EXPAND ON A CHARACTER LIKE FUCKING PANCHO AND STILL GIVE CLOVER THE GENERIC "SHE FINDS TRUE LOVE AND GETS ALL SUPPORTIVE AND LOSES ALL HER PERSONALITY TO REPLACE IT WITH GUSHING OVER HER MAN" ENDING!!!!
