People think when I say that I dislike Sonya the bear because I'm a filthy Jaurice-loving fujoshi, which while true, is not the reason. It is rather that in the Madagascar franchises women are either forced to be supporting roles for the male mcs, crazy ladies who hate the male mcs or in the case of characters like Sonya and also Zora: the muscular barbarian that the mcs only like as a gag rather than a genuine dynamic.
Like it is really dissapointing bc dreamworks can write female characters!! Especially nowadays, but all my fav ladies kinda got the short end of the stick because of the fact they were girls written in the early 2000s. Like even characters like Clover, who was written later on and therefore can get genuine character expansion gets morphed into these male-centered supportive gfs and it REALLY SUCKS!! BC YOU SEE THE MALE CHARACTERS AND HOW GREAT THEIR STORIES ARE AND THEN U GET THE ALREADY SMALL CAST OF GIRLS AND THEY'RE ALL LOVE INTERESTS OR CRAZY LADIES!!!!! I CANT STAND IT ANYMORE!!!!! FREE ALL OF MY GIRLS !!! FREE THEM NOW!!!
AND DONT SAY "OH ITS NOT THAT DEEP" BC THE FRANCHISE TACKLES SO MANY TOPICS!!! U CANT HAVE A WHOLE SECOND MOVIE ABOUT THE AFRICAN DIASPORA AND LEARNING TO ACCEPT UR QUEER CHILDREN AND STILL NOT KNOW HOW TO WRITE WOMEN!!!
