cell membrane: did you mean a joke?

sure the cell membrane is essential, it controls what goes in and out of the cell and also holds together the cell. it seems like an integral organelle, but nonetheless, it still has its flaws. defects in membrane trafficking disorders can affect integral proteins. additionally the cell membrane, if transport is disrupted, cystic fibrosis can appear due to a mutation in the CFTR gene that regulates chloride transport to various organs within an organism. additionally, cell membranes that interact with AβP peptide can cause a toxin to be released within the membrane causing alzheimer's disease. the interactions with this peptide control the cytotoxity of alzheimer's disease or how toxic the agents are within the cell and the organism as a whole. tbh, what kind of organelle is the cell membrane. i mean their job is to control what goes in and out of the cell. i mean if youre going to occasionally let toxins in, i think youre probably going to get fired sometime soon, right?

mitochondria = problematic

some people like to call the mitochondria "the powerhouse of the cell". quite frankly, i like to call it the biggest failure. why? i mean seriously what organelle is so special that it has its own disease? that's something you don't see everyday.  what more is there to say than that the mitochondria produces energy. simple, we all know that. mitochondrial disease shows up with this organelle can't do it's job and can't provide enough energy for cell/organ function. these tiny bad boys are said to power up to at least 90% of the cell's energy, but if they fail, then i'm pretty sure that's the end. what more can you do when your whole body becomes compromised. even worse, the failures of these organelles show up the most in children. how low do you have to go to the point you have to start targeting children? seriously, SMH. the failure of the mitochondria can lead up to a ton of diseases including cardiac disease, liver disease, diabetes, autonomous dysfunction, memory loss, autism, muscle weakness, i mean the list goes on forever, seriously. come on mitochondria, you have one job.

smooth ER has some rough patches

smooth er can be pretty rad: it's basically a mini factory that produces and distributes cellular products like lipids and hormones. i mean it's cool that they have the power to make anything and send it off through the cell, but smooth er isn't always smoothly functioning. i mean it's cool that cells trust the smooth er to send out these cellular products, but what about when the ser starts freaking out and stressing, so then it malfunctions while processing insulin, thus causing type 2 diabetes. additionally, the smooth er can cause you some liver disease by the combination of stress and lipogenesis. let's not forget about the alzheimer's and the parkinson's that can become problematic. all these diseases arise from the fact that interference with the er homeostasis can cause problems for the UPR leading to problems for the pathogenesis for these multiple diseases that can be caused by something that claims to be "smoother than you".

golgi apparatus? no thanks

the golgi body is an essential part within the cell: it transports/modifies lipids and proteins and gets them where they need to go. they're like a messenger basically. but honestly, let's not forget that the mailman always encounters the occasional mix-up with the packages he's supposed to deliver, am i right? the golgi apparatus/body is associated with glycosylation, which keeps proteins within the cell from degrading quickly. unfortunately, a number of diseases are linked with glycosylation, which are caused by the mutations in the genes that encode the enzymes. these mutations can lead to diseases such as liver disease and mental retardation. when the process is infiltrated, this causes a problem in both protein and lipid processing. how can you trust the golgi body at all, if they can cause a major screw up with just one malfunction? if i were you, i probably won't vote for them as organelle of the year :\

nucleus aka heck NO-cleus

ok let's be real: most people like to associate the nucleus as one the most essential cell organelles out there, yet in reality, it does a lot more damage than good. sure you can point out that they contain a good chunk of genetic data and basically determine the makeup of an organism, but what about mutations? just when you think you can actually trust a nucleus, they turn around and stab your back, and here you are, left with a disease or a mutation (disclaimer: yes i know mutations aren't always a bad thing). not to mention, as cells age, the nucleus starts to slip up on its job and starts to lead to cell deterioration with the nuclear pores and can cause neurodegenerative diseases such as parkinson's and alzheimers.
