“This is so boring.”
Kevin rests his forehead against the steering wheel of his Subaru, groaning in frustration. They’ve been stuck in traffic for almost an hour now, having only moved an inch over the past twenty minutes.
There are cars on either side of them with the engines turned off and whose drivers are standing on the pavement, stretching their legs and preserving what gas they have left. For as much as Kevin would like to do the same, he knows that the second he puts his car into park, traffic will start to move again, resulting in people honking their horns until he gets back in the car - and boy, if that isn’t one of his biggest pet peeves.
“And now I have to go to the bathroom,” he complains, turning his head just enough to scowl at his passenger. “I shouldn’t have had that fourth cherry limeade --
” --- this is all your fault, you know; making me stop at every freaking Sonic we drive past.”
Hunter rolls her eyes, snaps her gum, and then pushes her earbuds back into place. She’s been doing that a lot lately – ever since Kevin took over the stereo and started singing along to Cats.
That’s not even music, she’d said, resulting in his singing Mr. Mistoffelees at the top of his lungs ti prove her wrong.
Reaching across the console, Kevin tugs on her earbuds until they fall out.
“Distract me,” he says, shoving the last of his limeade into her hands; “– and please get that out of my sight.”
