AIC Studio, last day. We wrapped the res at the Art Institute of Chicago today. I am going to miss everyone at The Ryan Education Center. It has been a wonderful experience and I accomplished some great new work. Props to Yasmine, Opel, Surabhi, Lee, Caitlin, Meghan, Susan, Will, Liz, Judith, Beccy, Alex and Carolina for all their help and support along the way.
AIC Studio Day 70, images of "Plotting Curves / Form Studies" installed in my studio at The Art Institute of Chicago. The res is wrapping up on Saturday - so if you want to see this piece in it's current incarnation come on down to the Ryan Edu center between 1-5pm on Friday or Saturday.
AIC Studio Day 64, ok so these were taken yesterday. but my brain is actually fried so i'm working backwards. no srsly. anyhow went crazy with the panorama feature yesterday to get some snaps of the studio before i have to start packing it up.

AIC Studio Day 62, spent the morning at home developing new forms in Rhino to print on the Prusa and the Printrbot. Not 100% sure these are what i'm looking for - but the screenshots are nice - and i need to get things printing - so that's what i'll do. i do like the forms but there are a bit too solid for my liking - some holes, negative spaces, voids etc would be more copacetic.
AIC Studio, Day 51. Working hard on the new book now. The res is winding up and we're going to do an open studio event August 11th - 16th so production is going to be limited. I'm away this weekend in Ohio for the Make Magazine 3D Printing Testing Shootout - so i'm trying to make some progress on things. Which means some late nights.
Printed some test pages today - horizontally - in an ideal world i'd printed them upright, but that would mean adjusting one of the bots, and right now i'm concerned enough about mechanical failures to avoid pre-empting anymore.
Printed them in PET+ same as i've been using on the bigger form studies. Not 100% sold in this application, it feels a bit oily to the touch, i'm going to run one in PLA tomorrow and see what i think about that instead.
Tonight i've been working on fonts, typeface and braille - ideally each page with have these to identify the works from the collection. I mustn't forget to design a cover too. it's going to be a race to the finish that's for sure. :/
AIC Studio, Day 50. Today was a good day production wise. The PET+ filament i got from Made Solid works a treat on the big printrbot. The prints release real easy off the blue tape build surface. They are strong and bouncy. Also happy with the new "heat set" fabric markers - will be curious to see if they are more light safe or not. i need to do a test i guess. Also worked on Folium some more printing leaves out in Ninja Flex and PolyFlex and then later on prepping some pages for printing Tuesday on the Rep1's.
In addition to the Printrbot - finally starting to get nice prints off the Prusa that Lee, Opel and I made last month. I printed with some Zen Toolworks Woodfill today and the prints came out really good for the most part, after leveling the bed and calibrating the extruder everytime i used it.
All in all a good day despite the usual set backs, snafus and glitches. When i got home a stack of new catalogues from Fuseworks was waiting for me - with my Rmutt Candy Dispenser piece featured inside. :D
AIC Studio, Day 39. Spent a lot of time sketching in Rhino today. The more I draw - the more possibilities emerge - the hard part is picking the right ones to pursue - and trying to remember - the key constraint - "Will it print?" These images suggest a form that might, might do it - i think it;'s likely to come apart a wee bit in the very very extremities - but otherwise should do just fine. we'll see about printing it tomorrow.
