set in monotype rotis semi sans 55. the rotis typeface family was designed by otl aicher [1922–1991]: aicher’s commercial typeface designs, for agfa, released in 1989; named for the section of leutkirch im allgäu where aicher lived & worked. rotis started an industry trend for comprehensive typeface families: the rotis family consists of four sub-families—sans, semi-sans, semi-serif, serif; all with italic & bold variants. aicher’s studio produced precise drawings for basis weights of rotis, & for digitisation & scaling pioneered use of peter karow’s ikarus system. typographie [ernst & sohn, berlin, 1988], a testament to aicher’s philosophy, is set throughout in rotis semi-sans & serif.
