Magical Side Effects in Golden Hour
(This is a part of a series of world building posts I’m mostly doing for my own enjoyment as I explore the world of my WIP!)
Magic in Golden Hour basically works on an energy/essence system. More powerful magic = stronger drain on your reserves.
Most people don’t have enough magic for the effects to be noticeable. If they do their small magics for hours and hours on end, they would be slightly more tired than your average manual laborer after an 8-hour shift.
Those with a bit more magic (those who had two magical parents, were blessed by a god, or just have a greater affinity for it), can sometimes develop minor issues after using a lot of magic, either at once or in a short period. Things like migraines, body aches, arthritic-type pains in joints. A good nights rest will cure all but the worst cases.
(Magic side effects cannot be cured by magic- often it can actually make them worse as it floods the body with more of the same energy.)
Aidan, who has magic a hundred times the average, is at serious risk if he taps too far into his essence.
But of course he wouldn’t do anything so stupid as to throw unchecked power around with no regard to his health.
…right?
Aidan?
Oh no
