WIP Wednesday

After a long delay. I am once more posting a snippet for WIP Wednesday. This is from the last chapter of ‘Aidoneus’.

Not for the first time, Connor wonders how his own mother would have responded to all of this. He likes to think she would be happy for him—after the requisite tongue-lashing about getting a girl pregnant—and excited for the birth of her first grandchild. But it feels like a fool’s errand. If Elizabeth Rhodes was still alive, Connor has no idea what his life would look like. Would he have still gone into medicine? Would he have stayed in Chicago? Would he and Sarah have ever even met?

A whistle of boiling water, and Connor shakes the thought away.

He looks up to find Sarah looking at him. Staring, really.

Several Sentence Sunday

Once more going to the Aidoneus AU! Writing some more fluff before we get back to the angst. After all, you can't really twist the knife in before you have context for why it hurts <3

Connor doesn’t say anything else. He doesn’t have to. For them, family is complicated at the best of times. But no matter how long the silences stretch, how bitter and fractious things grow, there’s always that last bit of love that lingers. Even her father is–Not a helpful thought. Sarah forcefully redirects. That is not a helpful thought. As if in agreement, the baby kicks against Sarah’s hand.

These two have me in a chokehold i swear.

Several Sentence Sunday

Working on chapter four of Aidoneus! I am still working on it, Chicago Med has just been bouncing around in my head for so long (and work has been crazy) so it's difficult to nail down. Glad I can finally do this again!

During Sarah’s latest round with neurology, she helped consult on the case of a forty-eight year old woman with a brain tumor. Over twenty years together, three children, and her husband left before they even had a proper diagnosis. “How could he do that?” The young doctor finds herself wondering, not speaking to anyone in particular. “Just go ‘I didn’t sign up for this’ and walk away?” Dr. Abrams was still looking over the imaging when he said: “There’s a saying up in oncology: When the wife gets sick, the husband gets a new wife.” So this is Dr. Reese’ decision: she likes Connor. She will stay in a relationship with Connor. She will even have a baby with Connor. But she won’t sacrifice her independence for him.

Also I just had to include Sam Abrams. He's a bitch. He's arm candy. He's the best neurosurgeon in the hospital. He hates people. He's a girldad. He's my favorite side character and if I knew him in real life I'd probably punch him in the face.

WIP Wednesday

So, I've been getting into Chicago Med recently (blame my parents) and I have a new favorite character of Sarah Reese. And like all of my favorite characters, I have to be mean to her. So! Whump fic incoming. For this scene all you need to know is that Sarah is in surgery, the hospital is in the middle of a blizzard, and I have a fondness for mythology as metaphor <3

In the dark of his office, Dr. Daniel Charles watches the snow fall.  “The backup generators are up and running,” Sharon informs, flipping on a light. “So, what are you doing in a pitch-black office?” “Just thinking.” He tilts his head towards the window. “You know, according to Greeks, winter exists because the goddess Demeter despaired at the loss of her daughter, and thus cast the world into darkness and ice.”  “And now we only get spring upon her return from the underworld.” Sharon stands beside her old friend. “Think we’ll see it anytime soon?” Daniel can only look back out into the frigid night.
