Productivity is overrated. 1, 5, 10 & 16, please —I'd also love your answer to the last one regarding original stories.
1. what’s the fic you’re most proud of?
SO HARD TO SAY. it changes of course but i’m really happy with how a persimmon turned out
5. what fic of your own you won’t read?
hmm maybe spring will be spring. it’s very much a product of its time (the very beginnings of the pandemic) so it’s not something i feel the need to get back to
10. how has writing positively impacted your health or overall mood?
well i honestly can’t remember a time in which i didn’t write fiction (i wrote my first novel when i was 12) so it’s a bit hard to compare! it is true that this past year, for example, which has been a bit hard for me in terms of my mind’s health (mainly due to work and other irl issues!), every good piece of news related to my writing made my days a bit better! i’m lucky enough to say that even though i haven’t been able to write lots of fic lately i get a kudos email every day and it’s something i always look forward to!
16. do you reread old fics? is there a time in your writing you won’t go back to?
i do sometimes reread my old fics! the last one i reread was the mirror I stare into, just a couple of weeks ago. i normally wait a few months before i reread anything though bc that way i’ll have forgotten the details so i’ll read as a reader and not as a writer, if that makes sense. there are also many pieces of writing, especially short fics, that i haven’t revisited since i published them, but i don’t think it depends on like if they were written at a specific time in my life (i haven’t been writing fic that long i guess). i’d say it depends more on how much of myself i poured onto them or how personal was the spark of inspiration for them (the more personal the more likely i am too read them again)
as for my original writing, i haven’t reread anything written before, say, 2016 in a long time. it’s not that i don’t like it anymore—it’s just that i have good memories of all the stories i wrote before, which made me get to where i am today, and rereading them would just soil those memories! i can’t fairly judge any of it and i feel there would be little point in going back to what i used to write as a teenager. with regards to my published fiction, once it’s published i do tend to not come back to it, though that has probably something to do with the maybe ten or twenty times i had to read each manuscript while editing 😂
