One last try to get a reliable AiMesh setup
Replaced my DSL-AC68U with a brand new RT-AC2900 to see if that will resolve my AiMesh issues at home. Looking good so far. No random disconnects. But it has only been ten minutes.
If the kids are not screaming “Lag!!” within an hour or two I think I’ve resolved it. The best test of any wifi mesh system is three connected kids at home. One upstairs playing competitive CS:GO, one on the couch streaming videos, and a third walking around across all mesh nodes playing Roblox.
My wifi mesh setup now is a AiMesh system using Asus routers. One RT-AC2900 in the centre of the house, one wired RT-AC66U_B1 in the basement and one RT-AC68U on the top floor.

ASUS Announces AiMesh, what is I mesh, you may ask. Mesh network are made to help wifi connectivity and how routers handle the different and many devices that happen to connect to the same router from different distances and with different speeds. Not a long time ago our WiFi networks only supported a couple of computers and maybe a gaming console but now an entire ecosystem of smart devices are in use at the same time. All theses devices are not all sitting where the WiFi signal is the strongest, getting decent speeds or connection stability in the most-used areas of the house is no longer good enough.
ASUS AiMesh is a free update for selected ASUS routers and is now available worldwide. To view currently supported ASUS routers, please check www.asus.com/AiMesh. Additional ASUS wireless routers will be added throughout 2018, so please keep checking our AiMesh support page. Please contact your local ASUS representative for further information. Asus stated.
Mesh networks allow you to blanket your entire place with WiFi by spreading access across multiple nodes to cover your home’s layout. These Mesh network products can be convenient all-in-one solutions but they are often only available in expensive fixed bundles and expensive and wasteful thing to implement. Asus claims that “AiMesh, users can create a completely flexible whole-home WiFi system tailored to their needs, while continuing to enjoy all the functions of their current ASUS router, such as class-leading WiFi performance and enhanced security features like AiProtection”. AiMesh offers central management and control via either the ASUS Router mobile app or the ASUSWRT web interface. Enabling AiMesh on a compatible router requires a free firmware update that allows it to be added to any AiMesh network.
