📖
An asteroid heading for earth breaks up in the atmosphere over London showering strange rocks all over the capital city.
Luna Solburg and Duke Rain, 17 years old each, are among two people who are almost struck by these rocks, but hey it’s a space rock. They pick them up and take them home. These rocks from space contain strange gems that give you special powers.
London, the UK in general, is in some political upheaval. Duke is involved in a lot of political protests against the state. When he discovers this rock grants him power he tells his friends, and they set about trying to acquire them for his friends, so they can use their powers to help shift the balance in their favour in the political sphere and force change on the country.
Luna discovers hers has powers, and like… she has super powers now? Why the fuck would she give that up??? So she keeps hold of them and her and her friend play around with them. But when she’s in a bank one day it’s targeted by some people with powers she pulls her hoody up and covers her face and uses her powers to save the people in there.
Duke organises a march on parliament. It turns violent thanks to a few violent protesters and a few violent police officers.
Things start to escalate. The media name “strange woman in the bank” as a hero, The Phantom Angel, while they name “The man in the mask” from the protest The Iron Emperor. Slowly bit by bit London descends in to war caught between the army, protesters, police, and people with these gems all looking out for themselves, or looking to be heroes. The Phantom Angel becomes a symbol of peace, while the Iron Emperor becomes a symbol of change.
But these rocks have side effects. They are addictive, and the longer a person has them the harder they are to give up, and the energy they require to give people the powers comes from inside the person holding it. Duke’s powers are slowly killing him in his quest for change, trying to hold together a sort of rebellion and political movement in an aim to make the world a better place, he’s becoming corrupted by the idea of “the greater good”.
Reason I haven’t written it: It’s a collaboration with a friend, that was originally an RP back when we were like… 14… that’s gone through about 10 reworks before reaching this stage. It’s a graphic novel, so I’d have to find an illustrator, and I’ve only just reached a point in my life where I can even consider looking cause artists need to eat too, and they like money in exchange for goods and services.
[Drop a 📖 in my ask box and I’ll tell you about a random story concept I have or have had in the past that I may or may not ever actually write.]
