“What the hell is that.” Theo said, staring at the sad puddle of wet fur held out towards his face like Rafiki holding Simba.
“It’s a cat.” Liam grinned.
“I can see that.” Theo sighed. “What I mean is why do you have it and more importantly why did you bring it here.” The cat gave a hiss as Liam shifted it closer to Theo.
“Can i come in.”
“Not with that you can’t.” Theo said, Liam ignored him, marching forwards easily. Theo stepped to the side almost instantly, letting the boy, and cat, pass and hating himself for it even as he closed the door and turned to watch his boyfriend, happily petting the aggravated animal. “Explain. Now.”
“She likes me.” Liam breathed, smile so wide and bright it was almost blinding. Theo bit his cheeks, forcing down an answering grin.
“That’s not an explanation.”
“Right. Right, so...I got you a cat.”
“You what?”
“Well, I tried to get me a cat but turns out Mom’s allergic to cats so I can’t have her stay at mine. So I thought..you know..she could stay here?” He said, offering the cat up again.
“Your Mom or the cat?” Theo said, unmoved by the glowering animal being dangled b his face.
“The cat, obviously.” Liam snapped.
“Your mother would be more welcome.” Theo grumbled.
“Theo.”
“Liam.” Theo replied, mocking his tone.
“Please Theo. Cats always hate me, and look at her-” He gestured to the cat in his arms that was still glaring daggers at Theo, hackles raised even as Liam stroked a hand through her fur and she let out a soft purr. “She was stuck in the rain and actually came up to me, I mean, I think she was after the ham sandwich in my bag but she stayed with me and she’s only tiny and-”
“Jesus christ. You found a cat that doesn’t hate you, I get it. I don’t see why it has to stay with me though.”
“Because I can’t keep it at mine and you could use the company.”
“A cat isn’t company.”
“She’s called Alpha” Liam said. “So you know, you always have one, whether you’re here or in Idaho.”
“Fuckin hell.” Theo groaned. “You’re serious. You want me to house your cat?”
“Well, she’ll be our cat not my cat.”
“We’ve been dating a month. Don’t you think it’s a bit early to get a pet together.”
“Dude, you like moved across country for me, you can’t talk shit about too soon.”
“Technically I didn’t move across country for you.” Theo said pedantically.
“Technically you’re keeping the cat.”
