A Delta flight traveling from Atlanta to Barcelona had an unexpected incident when a passenger's severe case of diarrhea led to a U-turn and an emergency landing back in Atlanta. The plane had been in the air for two hours of the eight-hour journey when the decision was made due to the incident. In an audio transmission from the flight deck, the pilot explained to air traffic control, "This is a biohazard issue. We've had a passenger who's had diarrhea all the way through the airplane, so they want us to come back to Atlanta."The identity of the passenger responsible for the incident remains undisclosed. All passengers and crew were transferred to another flight, and the plane underwent a thorough cleaning upon its return to Atlanta. Passengers then reboarded the same aircraft for their trip to Barcelona, resulting in an eight-hour delay compared to the originally scheduled time.It remains unclear whether the passenger with the gastrointestinal issue was onboard when the flight eventually arrived in Spain.Delta officials confirmed that a "medical issue" prompted the emergency landing and subsequent cleaning but did not provide specific details about the medical condition.A Delta spokesperson expressed apologies to customers for the travel disruptions caused by the delay and stated, "Our teams worked as quickly and safely as possible to thoroughly clean the airplane and get our customers to their final destination. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the delay and inconvenience to their travel plans."
