Aisha happily chews her food wondering if Isabel would be willing to buy dessert. She can’t remember the last time she’s been out to eat especially her favorite food. She’s barely seen Isabel since the funeral, her sister most likely busy assisting with the governors campaign and mourning.
She’s been gone quite awhile, Aisha wonders what’s taking her so long when the mark on her shoulder burns. A look of confusion passes over her face and then reluctant understanding. Aisha slowly puts her fork down and sighs. ‘No dessert then.’ She asks for the check and then takes out her phone sending Isabel a text.
[you took so long I hope ur ok!]
Aisha leaves a hefty tip and exits. The ambulance siren blares almost deafening her and she doesn’t stick around to see Isabel get taken away.
She enters her apartment ignoring the figure leaning in the hallway. “How was brunch?”
Aisha doesn’t answer. She also ignores the various pings of her phone no doubt her other siblings wondering what’s going on with Isabel. They can ask her herself. She throws herself gracelessly on to her couch.
The tattoo burns again and she turns toward the figure whose now in the living room with her. “Made you look.”
“Isabel Middleton is in stable condition after what could only an attempt to poison her. She was having lunch with her younger sister Aisha who refused to comment.”
Aisha doesn’t utilize a chauffeur and drives a modest car. One that isn’t easily recognized. Not that it matters much, she’s never achieved the level of fame her siblings have and no ones really been looking for her.
Nikolai Middleton goes by Nick and is the oldest Middleton child. Known for owning a huge tech company and also living humbly; something Aisha admired. What most don’t know is that he is also skilled in mechanics, fixing up and building cars in the little spare time he has.
Aisha is thrilled to hear he wanted to work on her car. And leaves him to it.
She’s never been much of a speeder but her car won’t slow down and panics when the brakes give in a way brakes shouldn’t. The mark on her arm burns again and someone occupies her passenger seat. She tries to breathe and braces for an impact that won’t come.
“Nick Middleton has just been involved in a car crash on the Northern Highway. The tech guru has suffered a broken arm and will require stitches but assures the press he will be fine. Investigators say the cause of the crash was due to faulty brakes.”
“He’s lucky he’s skilled right?” The figure says. “Could have been much worse.”
Aisha as usual doesn’t answer. She feels stupid for thinking maybe some of the people who share her namesake actually care about her.
She was told not to worry about these things. The people who advised that aren’t here to see her disregarding the advice.
Aisha can pretend though. And does.
