me: ok that's more than enough tumblr for the day. Lemme back away now and just look for a nice, low-commitment video essay I can listen to while I work
Youtube: Sarah Z uploaded "Tumblr's Failed Convention: The Story of Dashcon" ! 50:01 minutes

Hello, I am back in the tumblr ask box ;D I was reading the last chapter of wwte again (because once was not enough, it is too good) and I realized you didn't use the first movie in your story. May I ask if you had thought about it ? Yes, no, why ? :)
hgfhgfhfh💗 thank youuuuu
I haven’t thought about it for one simple reason: wwte has been in the works since June 2018, and by the time Two Heroes became accessible worldwide, I had about 70% of the fic’s plot drafted and one or two chapters written! :D
I never ended up watching the movie, for the same reason I stopped reading the manga (well, the anime caught up too by now) early into the Culture Festival Arc: I know what point I wanna deviate from canon, and knowing myself, I think it would annoy/stress me to know if/how certain things in canon go against what I’ve headcanoned for the fic.
I know the very basics because, well, tumblr😆 I’m looking forward to watching it at some point! I thought it was sweet that Toshi immediately thought to bring Izuku with himself to the States and I’ve heard there’s kacchako dancing👀 But I probably wouldn’t have incorporated it into wwte anyway, since they weren’t really talking between the end of the term and the summer camp in my fic. Dave might have been a nice addition, though.
Thank you for enabling me to rant your question! :3
Hello~ Until the next chapter of (still awesome) WWTE, I have a question (feel free to ignore this ask, of course) : How do you know your story will have 23 chapters ? Do you already have some sort of draft for each of them ? Or are you following an outline ? In summary, what is your writing process ? :)
Hi!♥ No no no - thank you for asking!! I’m always happy to ramble😄
I do follow an outline! When I’m writing a longfic, I start with basic ideas and plot points, and as I develop them, I end up with a pretty detailed chapter plan. Those documents includes all scenes I want to have in a chapter (I don’t plan chapters by word count - like, I don’t do “ok, we reached 6k, time to wrap up” - but by themes. For me, that means: “I want Character X to go through this mini-arc” or “this is the point I want Character X to get to by the end of the chapter”; these are the scenes I need to make that happen), bits of dialogue, sometimes a very rough first draft of a scene. For WWTE, I have about 20k of outlines, plus another 5k for future timestamps. Ah, and a timeline that covers events across *checks* uh, 89 years xD even though WWTE only covers a bit over 1.5 years (I might actually share that one day, but not any time soon; it’s too spoilery)
Not all of my outlines are super detailed - the Overhaul arc in particular needs a lot of fleshing out - but overall, I’m pretty confident about where I’m going and what I need to get there.
That said, even though I currently expect the fic to need 23 chapters, that doesn’t mean I might not end up adding more. One of the reasons behind why I prefer holding off on publishing until the whole fic is written is that I often end up with new ideas while I’m writing, then go back and add tidbits to previous chapters for foreshadowing or just to make the new thing blend in more seamlessly.
(Frankly, I’d have preferred not publishing WWTE until the first draft was completely written... but I’ve been working on it for 2 years by the time I put up the first chapter, and I worried I might lose interest if I have to go without any interaction for another two years ^^;;)
Another thing that might happen is that despite me wanting specific scenes in a chapter, sometimes they grow and change too much. (I follow outlines, but I’m not rigid about them and let the characters take me to new directions “as the magic happens”.) The chapter might get super long, and I actually find a decent closing/resting point earlier. For example, #6 and #7 were originally meant to be a single chapter, but the kids interacted more at Hosu hospital than I had expected, and Izuku did the thing, and I figured, ok, this is actually a good place to end; I’m splitting the chapter after all.
In comparison, #10 grew to be over 23k, and yet I kept it as a single chapter because everything really goes together thematically and splitting in two would hurt the overall effects on the reader imo.
That’s basically it? In general, I’m more of the “plan to the last detail” type of writer rather than one who knows the basics but wings most of it =‘)
Again, thank you for asking! I get so happy when I hear from readers and they ask questions. :3 So glad you’re enjoying it. Have a lovely day!
I’ve revamped my old Tags page! I’ve been meaning to since I came back from my 3 years long tumblr hiatus, lol
It’s not super good-looking from mobile but it should still help navigate. and now I can happily gaze at Blood and Ishuca whenever I go there mmm
As of last week, I also went back to queueing posts, so we’re def getting back in business xD
GAAAH IT’S BEEN SO LONG I HAVE TO TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO RECALL WHAT TAGS I USED TO USE
I’ve also been lurking for so long that I have 400+ posts in my drafts omg
...
...
Anyway. How have y’all been? All good, I trust?
Stupid Dear past self,
When you finally drag yourself to your dentist because your jaw aches so much that you can’t even open your mouth, and she sends you to an odontologist who tells you that you’re going to be admitted to hospital for 24 hours because they need to surgically remove an impacted wisdom teeth from your gum immediately... it’s not the best idea to read up on the procedure.
And if you value your sanity then DON’T, for the love of god, WATCH EXTRACTION RECORDINGS ON YOUTUBE!! Seriously, it’s not your brightest idea! (WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING YOU IDIOT)
Just. Don’t.
Sincerely,
Your Frightened Mess of a Future Self
Sooooo as my binge-reblogging might indicate, I’ve watched Zootopia AND IT’S SOOOO PERFECT OH MY GOD
I am ashamed that when I first heard about it, I was all “meh” and... well, imagined it would be some silly animal randomness like The Secret Life of Pets kinda appears to be... but it was NOT and I’m absolutely in love!!
Judy is AWESOME. She’s one of the very best heroines I’ve seen in a long while and I absolutely adore her. Nick, well, I figured he’d be your average arrogant asshole who kinda softens up by the end of the movie... and yeahhhh that was not an incorrect assumption, but still there’s a lot more to him.
There are tons of fantastic characters. The world is unique and colorful and very inclusive: I thought it was brilliant how they showed different districts for different animals - you could really feel the size differences, like how Judy appeared so tiny next to elephants and giraffes in the shop for big animals, but a GIANT in the chase scene through the, er, small animal district.) And their world can be just as unfair and shitty as the real world. People make mistakes, sometimes they do really bad things without meaning it, and they have to deal with the consequences. RACISM AND PREJUDICE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE, and it deals with it from both sides. The film’s message is indeed very relevant these days.
The story is great and engaging. My only complaint is that it was maybe a bit too pedictable. I mean, I could guess where it was going front the first second, and there was not a single twist I couldn’t predict waaaay before it happened. Even the “biggest” plot twist at the end. (The only thing I didn’t call perfectly was.... uh, how to say it without spoiling. I did call that it would happen, but I thought it would be for real... while it turned out to be just an act. There.)
Do I need to go into Wilde Hopps? I totally need to go into WIlde Hopps. Nick and Judy are ADORABLE together and I love everything about them and I need a procedural cop show about them solving cases together while managing their relationship (which is totally the first of its kind in their world) Although plantoc besties would work out just as great, too!.
Really, it’s just... such an awesome movie. I can’t wait to watch it again. Well done, Disney! Well done!!
