I might delete this later because, while not spoilery, it is one of the first really intimate, soul-connecting moments between them. (Around 130k in, lol. Toshi’s having an existential crisis after Kamino *gleefully rubs hands together*) But as I’m editing the fic, I’m finding a lot of scenes that make me go AHHH and confirm that yes, I love the potentials of the dekumight ship, and I particularly love this story. And it’s been a while since I felt that strongly about my writing, so - IDK, here’s yet another excerpt xD
“I have no idea what happens tomorrow,” the man continues. “After All For One was detained, I was taken directly to the hospital, and nobody was allowed in outside of a select few people. Today, Tsukauchi-kun arranged a private ride to take me home. So far, I’ve only spoken with people who knew about me already. But what now?”
He is shaking so bad. His voice is breaking on the words.
“I have to go to Might Tower and deal with the fallout. I have to explain myself to the general public and the students. I have to face my colleagues, acknowledging that I’ve been lying to them this whole time. I… I knew this was coming, but I wasn’t ready. I was supposed to have a plan in place—for the agency, for the school, for the Hero community. For you. But nothing was ready and it’s too late now and I have no idea how everyone’s going to react.” He ducks his head. “I’m afraid."
Toshinori sighs. “I wish I could turn this off for you. Redirect it to… Todoroki-shounen, or any of your peers.”
Somehow, that’s the cruelest, saddest thing he could have said.
“I don’t.” Izuku’s voice is as firm as his chocked-up throat allows. He gulps several times. “Can I… Can I hug you? Just for, just for a little bit?”
After a moment of hesitation, Toshinori nods.
Izuku pushes himself up from the floor, circles the bed and crawls in behind Toshinori. As he slides his arm around the man, he discovers that his skin is smooth at his stomach, turning raised and ragged nearing his chest. He is very warm, and the scent of him from this close is nearly overwhelming.
Izuku wishes he could curl around all the aching parts of him. Pick at his doubts and fears like one would pick at weeds in a garden. He wants to shield him, keep him close and safe… but Izuku is small, and Toshinori is a giant. He might as well try to contain a supernova.
It’s unbelievable that Toshinori doesn’t see this. That he doesn’t see he’s marvelous and infinite like the universe itself.
“You are so amazing. The bravest person I’ve ever met. I’m so glad you’re alive, and I love you so much. No, hey, it’s—I told you: I just need you to hear me out.” Izuku pushes his forehead to the base of the man’s neck, willing the sudden tension in his shoulders to bleed away. “I love you, Toshinori-san. You are amazing.”
Toshinori’s heart is pounding under his palm.
