It looked like a good morning, so I went back up Calton hill about 7 AM for some shots with less haze. I also took my drone along and took a few shots with it.
The Stockbridge Market is Sunday morning, so I headed over there. It's not large, but has some nice things.
I picked up a couple of packs of local strawberries. So I should get two strawberry seasons this year, as the Wisconsin strawberries are ripe in late June. I also bought a homemade rabbit, leek and bacon pie which we heated up for lunch.
There was a real Cheese Monger across the street, so I stopped in for a little Scottish cheese.
After lunch I headed back out and went by the Sir Walter Scott monument. It's quite a pile; in my opinion its an overwrought oversized church steeple in search of a church. As you might guess, I'm not a fan.
I headed on over to the entrance to Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal Mile. Suddenly tourists everywhere!
I made my way through the crowds to The Whiski Rooms for a tasting. Just one block off the Royal Mile and a world away from the crowds!
I did a tasting of 4 whiskies from the various regions recommended by the staff. It was a good way to determine my taste preferences. My favorite was the Glenfarclas, which I had never heard of. I went next door and bought a bottle, but I'm afraid it won't make it home. So I'll have to find another!
In the evening we upgraded our dining to a restaurant called Aizle and a spectacular dinner. Six courses, plus extra non-courses with wine pairings. Every course had multiple items, each of which had several components requiring individual preparation with beautiful preparations. It was very much Scottish ingredients, but international too; Japanese techniques, etc.
