Getting Started
Hello, everyone! My name is Kris, and I'm Ajar Tech's friendly, neighborhood, Social Media Maven. I'll be running our online presence and wanted to give you the very first update on where we are: the beginning.
And the beginning is a very exciting place to be.
I've never had the opportunity to work with a company at the ground floor level, so when our founder Peter Scheyer asked me to assist, I jumped on board. Especially since it meant I'd have a boss who is currently overseas and I could work from my living room in my Wonder Woman snuggie. What? It's empowering.
More than that, though, Ajar was a concept I could get behind.
Ajar is a social and procedural capital company that uses its network and processes to implement existing open source projects profitably, holding those projects true to the ideology of open source accessibility while purposefully enabling new talent to leverage their contributions into industry clout.
In an email from Peter, he said: "I want to emphasize that a major thing I want to bring to the table is that I want to offer these projects as a way into the industry for people starting out. I know people at major companies and dozens of start ups, and I want to make sure that contributors to our projects get way above and beyond normal corporate benefits for completing a project well, in terms of human resources.
For me, that means constant social media shoutouts, personal letters of recommendation for each and every job application our contributors want to do, etc. Everything that a major company should provide its people to help them stay competitive from a modern hiring perspective, I want to give to our open source experts."
And that's where I come into the picture. I'll serve as a helpful guide, pointing you in the direction of rad new research, giving shout outs to fantastic people in the field on jobs well done, and more. So we're here to aid great projects get the attention they deserve, and assisting the people behind them get to where they need to be in their own careers.
At this stage online, we're really just seeing what name options are available, finding our home on various social media platforms, and looking into who else is out there doing the sort of work we want to collaborate with and assist. The research portion of this is incredibly fascinating.
As someone with a background in nonprofit marketing and advertising, I'm being shown a whole new world of R&D I wasn't aware of and learning about incredible studies I would otherwise have no idea about. You'll get to hear about them soon too, which is amazing! We're all going to know so much more about so many things, and help inform how projects go from conception to finished product.
Like I said, the beginning is an exciting place to be.
