Akai APC40 MK2 First Look
With so many MIDI controllers out here these days, it is easy to get lost in the specs of what it can do rather than caring about how it looks in your setup. Those who use their heads too much might think function over form wins the battle – but with so many options out there to choose from, why should anybody settle with a hunk of gear that they are tired of looking at. Akai isn’t the first company to take an idea and simply remodel it to be more aesthetically pleasing. Pioneer has been doing it for years – if they make any additional changes that are small, they make sure than the outer casing looks completely different. Korg should take notes here. Their APC40 has gotten an overhaul that sort of combines new and old styling. The Mk2 version of this unit comes with more of a rectangular shape while still keeping the layout familiar. I personally think that they made much better use of the space while keeping the important bits where they are supposed to be. Some will probably remark that the older version is much more efficient in terms of space usage but you can’t please them all I guess. http://www.djtechtools.com/2014/08/15/review-akai-apc40-mk2-first-look/
