a short concept about akechi bc it’s been bumping around my head recently and i wanted to write it out
TW: disordered eating, murdery themes bc it’s akechi, suicidal ideation (?)
akechi goro has never felt in control, no matter how hard he reached for some semblance of it. not since those first foster homes, where he grew used to being a tool for people to use, a bullet in a gun with no choice of his target. so can you really blame him if he latches onto the things he can control? nobody cares if he’s hurting himself, he gets to choose to. so he does. and as long as he keeps posting sweets on social media (he throws them away right after) and covers up any eyebags with some extra concealer for the cameras (he can’t really remember the last time he slept, spending his nights pushing himself to exhaustion in mementos), nobody, not even the main who aims him like a weapon, has ever really noticed.
until someone did.
so now, he has to deal with a silent raised eyebrow when he turns down curry after staying at leblanc long past dinnertime, has to ignore the way that gray eyes study his face when he hasn’t had a chance to reapply his makeup in a few hours. he hates it, knowing that goddamn boy, the one he’s supposed to ruin, has somehow stumbled across a weakness in him. he pretends he doesn’t notice.
ignoring it works until he joins the phantom thieves. suddenly, deft hands are somehow procuring coffee and curry from nowhere in the middle of that gaudy casino, and he can’t rightly turn it down with everyone watching and eating their own. and, now, he has teammates who constantly make sure that they never push someone too far, never go past their limits the way he always wanted to.
and now, he finds himself sleeping more. if it’s in akiras bed, the boy in question curled on that rickety old couch, that’s nobodies business. and if akira starts slipping sodas and snacks into his pockets during palace infiltrations, he pretends not to notice (akira, too, pretends not to notice when he’s eating them the next day.)
at some point, he has a realization that he actually enjoys the way akira takes care of him. he likes knowing that someone is making a plan with him in mind, who cares enough to actually notice things.
he shoves that realization deep into the back of his mind, and finishes the infiltration. it goes perfectly.
part of him wishes it didn’t.
he doesn’t eat or rest a single time after he sees those eyes, the ones that cared enough to actually see, as the life drained from them, blood dripping from soft hair and pretty eyelashes. but this time, it doesn’t feel like control. it feels like pain, instead. like taking care of himself was only something he could do when the smell of coffee didn’t make him want to curl up and sob.
but when the last breath is torn from his chest, staring down the barrel of his own gun, akechi goro finally feels in control. when he dies, starving and alone, it’s by his own choice.
he’s never hated it more.
