Artwork of Noa Izumi by Akemi Takada commissioned for an article on the fifth anniversary of Newtype magazine, appearing in their April 1990 issue, published by Kadokawa Shoten. Scanned from my personal collection.

In the article, the magazine revealed the results of a mail in survey postcard which came with the January issue asking the readers who their favourite characters and anime were. Patlabor was the readers favourite anime poling at 25% of the vote. Noa Izumi was the number one female character with 21% of the vote. For male characters, Kiichi Goto came in second, behind Ryo Saeba from "City Hunter". Asuma Shinohara came in at 6th place and Isao Ota took the 8th spot.

Commentary from Akaemi Takada

This is a poster for "Anime V". Because I thought "Anime V" was a magazine targeted at elementary to junior high school students, I tried to give it a cute atmosphere. I drew in various small items, like an octopus-shaped sun oil bottle and sandals.

It’s a beach scene depicting the vibe of: "If you sleep, the shadow of the parasol will move and you'll get sunburned~". The item Asuma is holding in his hand is sunscreen cream. Writing things with cream can leave your skin with a white, un-tanned shape. But Asuma wasn't stupid enough to actually write "Baka" (idiot) on her.
