Talk tome abt Val and Sophies marriage I demand it
valentine beaufort &. sophie beaufort, sophie moreau previous to her marriage, were arranged to be married at the ages of four &. three, respectively. their entire engagement was extraordinarily rocky, the marriage having been called off multiple times by their parents due to valentine being an englishman &. sophie being a frenchwoman ; the english &. the french were in the middle of a period of hatred for one another while they were young. still, however, they managed to meet at least once before their marriage, valentine at the mere age of sixteen with sophie at the age of fifteen when they were wed, the english &. french entering into a brief period of peace just before their wedding.
initially, their marriage was typical of the time period’s ; they were basically business associates rather than what spouses in this day &. age are expected to be like. however, contrasting personalities were quick to cause them to briefly hardly tolerate the other’s presence, valentine being particularly laid back &. simply wishing to relax as a nobleman &. participate in the fine arts of fiction writing &. painting while sophie’s passions were politics &. striving for peace. despite these differences, they were what sparked a fondness for one another &. a far more efficient partnership ; val, at the time, could hardly hear. everything sounded murky &. one had to speak concisely &. clearly for him to be able to fully understand. though this caused many misunderstandings between the couple, it was this that gave sophie the idea of requesting val teach her to read ; val was talented with words &. educated, so if val could communicate to her &. sophie would be able to understand ships would be sailing smoothly.
it was all within their first year of marriage that val taught sophie the basics of reading, though he failed in his attempts to teach her to properly write. this development was critical to their relationship &. they were quick to go from bitter allies to something more reminiscent of a young couple who’s romance was just beginning to blossom.
although sophie had learned to read the basics at the very least, she remained unsatisfied &. decided the ability was not enough to make her political ideas prominent in society ; it was then, knowing of val’s fondness for writing, that she proposed an idea. sophie would argue politics to val, val would clarify in a note that sophie would read, &. then she would confirm &. val would write down her ideas under his own name. the duo created several political books, all under val’s name, throughout their marriage, &. this built a trust that eventually resulted in sophie’s first pregnancy. however, such a thing was short lived &. ended in a miscarriage. the death of the baby impacted val far more obviously than it did sophie ; while sophie forced herself to move on &. asked to continue their political work, val was heartbroken &. had quickly fallen into a deep depression.
this difference in coping initiated a brief period of indifference between the lovers, but was later resolved with sophie becoming more open in general towards her spouse, though the pair agreed not to try for another heir until much later. most of the years between their marriage &. their deaths were filled with secretive writing, a couple of books causing light scandal in their ideas ( though sophie’s place as the thinker behind val’s words was never discovered ), &. the partnership &. conflicts managed to evolve from a distaste for one another to an intense love, albeit acted out in a strange way ; val was particularly affectionate &. eager in their relationship while sophie played the part of the patient &. intelligent wife who commanded respect in a time period where women rarely had such an ability.
years after the initial miscarriage, sophie was pregnant again. as to be expected, val was ecstatic &. hosted multiple parties for the occasion, the animosity caused by sophie’s previous pregnancy known to most who knew where to find the right gossip. suffice to say, sophie’s untimely death was crushing ; it was only made worse by her being in the latter months of her pregnancy, val hoping feverishly for an addition to the family he &. sophie had somehow managed to glue together.
