Fred Hampton’s Door 2, 1975 by #DanaCChandlerJr aka #AkinDuro, Acrylic paint on wood. In 1967, Dana Chandler witnessed Boston police using violence to stop a peaceful civil rights protest, an event which triggered his commitment to the Black Power movement to effect social change. Fred Hampton’s Door 2 is a statement against Chicago police who had murdered a young Black Panther, Fred Hampton, in his bed, by frst shooting through his door. The frst Fred Hampton’s Door was a small, square trompe l’oeil painting of a bullet hole-ridden door. When it was stolen from a Boston exhibition, Chandler reconceived the work using an actual door for greater emotional impact. In 1970, Chandler also used the original composition for an edition of black and white prints.
