Electric type: How did your pokemon become your favorite?
Okay, I am going to be honest, due to the lack of information we have on Sobble and the other two starters I cannot in good conscience say Sobble is my favorite. Until we learn more and I am able to play the game with this sweet baby child I will refuse to give an actual ranking to this pokemon. (sorry if that upsets people but each pokemon in my favorite list has tons of reasons to be there and I feel it is a disservice to give a slot to Sobble before we even know its evolution line).
That being said I love love love Sobble to the point that I made my first pokeganda blog the day it was announced. So why do I like Sobble so much?
First when the starters were announced as I looked at them Sobble was the only one that looked like a pokemon to me. This happens every time for a lot of people. We have to get used to the new designs and accept that this is what Nintendo is giving us. Sobble took no time convincing me it was a pokemon. It was cute and I loved it!
This definitely is contributed to its design. The only other water starter I will pick over the grass and fire choice is Mudkip. I love mudkip and until now it was the only Water starter I have used through an entire playthrough. As many people have pointed out Sobble and mudkip share similarities in design, particularly the head fin. Unfortunately I didn’t get into mudkip until after black and white came out so the fanfare for this pokemon had died down.
Another reason I love sobble is its personality. I don’t think we have had such an emotional and SAD pokemon as a starter before. Usually the starters are Cool, Confident, or Comedic, so to have this shy and sad pokemon be a choice was refreshing. I am also interested in the potential change in personality as it grows. Will its sadness become more prominent? Will it become expressive in different ways? Or will it change drastically? I have no idea, but I am excited to find out!
