Spending those few moments together either cuddled up or doing something they love until the inevitable would come and they have nothing to do but accept what's to come.

Parting embrace that just gets tighter as the other whispers "it's time, I need to go"

Their s/o pleading and begging for them to stay, or at least fight it together.

Their s/o gave their forehead a lingering kiss as they whispered their goodbye.

Leaving when their s/o is asleep because they know damn well they can't leave when their s/o is on their knees begging for them to stay.

Both succumb to the realization and reality of the importance of them leaving and they just feel so weak but let go without much of a fight.

The promise of being back, but not giving their word if they come back either dead or alive.

Leaving a token of their affection or a token of their love behind with their s/o.

Both not addressing the matter but choosing to spend the remaining time building happy memories instead.

Leaving a note with the promise of their return instead of actually saying goodbye.

Not every love story is going to grant you a happy ending, a lot can punch your gut and give you your character development.

Staring at how the person that revolves around your world has another revolve around theirs.

Being their go-to person after their s/o made them cry again. Consoling them for the hundred time while they rant about how their s/o is this and that and you decide enough is enough.

Staring at them with all the adoration and maybe a little pleading to see nothing but guilt and pity.

Turning their favor down to get their s/o's attention and explaining how it's a two-person relationship, not two and a side relationship.

The two of you standing in the rain when they were supposed to have their own day together when they choose them instead of you.

When they finally had to choose, and you weren't their first.

When you failed to make them love you in that little bet you made. and you finally give up and surrender, hey at least loving them was fun while it lasted. before it hurt

When they had to balance their time with you.

Them going out of their way to defend and dodge when you ask why or question them.

You walk away after convincing yourself you can still fight but watch them become their happiest with each other.

Wishing you could have the love you're giving that undeserving person.

There you are standing with a glass of champagne in an event you helped organize for the one you love for their now-fiancee.

You holding back tears both from pain and the realization that it would never be you.

Looking through old pictures when being with them never hurt this much.

Having their legal name saved in your contacts instead of that nickname only they had.

Being fine finally when they're not always there.

Slowly drifting apart from each other. And you're finally and genuinely ok with it.

Giving yourself one final cry and moving on.

Getting the ick after asking for one small thing over and over and them promising and disregarding your request, you found your way to complete your own favor.

You both promised you'd give it a try but see them not being physically present with you.

Just you know, eternal life and loneliness. Just woke up feeling silly amirite?

The immortal forgeting the first time they met with their reincarnated lover from the many lives they lived.

Watching their lover be married off and happy, they guess this lifetime isn't their lifetime.

Being tired of growing and adjusting to every century passing.

Giving their time and dedication to stray animals instead and helping them get better families/keeping the strays instead.

Being sacred is boring and furthers their loneliness and sleeping around feels like a chore so they just let emptiness consume them.

Sometimes their soulmate/lover is even persistent to keep their distance and chooses another in a certain lifetime and the immortal would respect their decision.

Keeping what they and their soulmate/lover used to have in a single secluded place, much like a hall of memories, and just let loneliness eat them away but they'll never throw anything away.

Being so lonely and done that they find solice in the taste or aftertaste of poison/toxins.

Efficiently living in the woods, giving travelers help or guiding them back to civilization.

Chasing/Basically flirting with death by living on the edge. Trying anything and everything that could get them clapped.
