When was the last time Porter had been Aksel? Sitting there in the local diner, waiting for his cousin to show up, attempting to scatter the back of his brain came to a rapid end. With how interwoven his days were, he couldn’t even remember what he did yesterday morning or even for that matter, what his morning was like. Everything became a blur when life became chaotic at once. It didn’t make him anymore bearable to the server, who kept on coming near his table and asking when the other party would arrive. The older man shrugged off, hoping the other would catch Porter’s drift and not bother him till Aksel arrived. The thing is, Porter arrived early toward the diner, no one was running late, it just allowed him a moment to himself and focus his undivided energy on family. Digits playing with the rim of condensation from the water on the glass, hearing the ring of the diner bell, one Porter grew accustomed to after late nights here, causing to lift his oceanic hues. There his cousin was. Instantly on his feet, a grin played on his mouth corners, quirking briefly, as he embraced the other, patting the back of the other before deciding this was long enough. “Hey buddy,” his cavernous voice spoke up, motioning toward the opposite side of their booth before Porter took his own seat.
Releasing a deep sigh, oceanic hues carefully focusing on Aksel, his pseudo-brother, which was another way he referred to his cousin, when people asked Porter about family in town. There were people he cares about. One of them sitting right across from him. It just took his time and finding the right words to inform people there was some instilled happiness in his life. “Moments before you came in, I started thinking about the last time we last saw each other and I gave up. I couldn’t even remember what I did this morning. The point is, it’s been far too long and it’s good to see you again, bud.” Genuinely words flowed off his tongue, glad finally a time permitted them to meet up with each other, a corner of his mouth raising. Rubbing his hands, before his arms rested on the table, he rose a curious brow, “So, what’s been new and exciting with you? Lay it all on me. I cleared all of my plans for tonight.” Not like he had any in the first place but he was bullshitting there. He was old. Ancient, as one girl told him. Those words made him laugh but he did agree.
