Akechi: I'd never shoot anyone in the head. That's such a boring form of murder.
Akira: You've literally shot people in the head, like, fifty times. Me included.
Akechi: Well, I'd never do it again because it got boring.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Ren stared at the girl standing in front of him, his eyes narrowed and his lips stitched into a frown of annoyance, a blank slate darkening his pupils. She was half turned and staring at directly at him with widened eyes that had were pricked with tears, she had blond hair bundled to the side of her head in messy French brades that only reached her ears, the rest just puffed out awkwardly and laid lazily over her shoulders, it was so halfassed, everything about her was halfassed. She turned away and settled her gaze on the line where the building-ridden earth met the sky, her eyes were soft, as if she was remembering a fond memory, or as if tears that had been held back for too long were finally going to fall. A feeling of resentment coiled in his stomach as he looked at her, her couldn't stand it, the way her uniform was crinkled and was just thrown on with no regard to how she looked, the she looked so stupidly small and pitiful, and yet found himself crying out words that he couldn't even bring himself to believe. "Hey, don't do it please!" The girl stilled, her foot freezing with its heel on the edge, a soft gust of wind blew around them, gently billowing the girl's hair around her face, Ren was sure it probably looked like a scene from one of those sickingly stereotypical romance anime; chatter from the students in the courtyard was the only sound that broke through the silence, but then he was taken off guard by a bitter, broken laugh that filtered through her lips. "You've probably heard it all before, but...I really thought he might be the one, you know? But then he told me that he was done..." She sighed and smiled sadly. He blinked and tilted his head, raising an eyebrow, honestly, he could never begin to comprehend or accept how airheaded she was sometimes. "For gods sake, please..." he closed his eyes and shook his head in annoyance, a frown adorning his lips, "are you serious? I just can't believe that for some stupid reason you got here before me..." She turned to him in surprise, taken aback by what he said. "Listen, I'm not going to give you that 'you'll find someone else' bull," he opened his eyes and forced himself to look up at her, it hurt to see her cry, but he just couldn't seem to hide the annoyance that laced itself into his words, "but you can't just spend your life wasting away because you gave your heart to the wrong person, let me tell you, this isn't the only pain or loss you'll experience, and you've got your whole life ahead of you, you shouldn't kill yourself over something like this. Think about it like this: at least you've never gotten robbed of anything." Something glinted in the corner of her eye, Ren had the irresistable urge to hold her in his arms, to stroke her hair and tell her that she'd be okay, that he still loved her. He stepped forward and cradled her cheek in his palm, a single tear pushed from her eyelid and slid halfway down her cheek before it was caught by his thumb and wiped away, they shared tender smiles and she reached her hands up to gingerly ley her palms against the sides of his face. "Thank you, Ren," she closed her eyes and gave him one last smile as tendrils of black and white coiled up her body, turning her into a person who had long since been gone, "I'll always love you, okay?" and then she disappeared. Ren's hand stayed hovering in place where he had cradled her cheek, his eyes caught on the black and red card that had appeared in his grip.
LOVERS: MAX RANK ★
~ It was another day, another opportunity, Ren slowly climbed his way up the stairs to the school roof and found his hand grasping tightly to the door handle when he finally reached it, his other hand clenched by his side, this was the day, or so he thought, he pushed the door open with vigor and instantly felt all motivation drain from his body with an exasperated groan of annoyance. A frail looking boy with the messiest blue hair was standing on the edge, his arms limply hanging at his sides and his eyes wide in surprise, staring directly at the black haired boy who had unexpectedly interrupted him. Ren found himself making notes on the boys appearance, his face covered in bruises, his body small and bony, his clothes looked loose and comfortable, yet everything was messy. Halfassed. He hadn't even taken his shoes off. The boy awkwardly kicked the tips of his shoes against the concrete and shuffled backwards, away from Ren, he was scared, heels of his worn shoes slightly over the edge. Ren hated seeing this, hated seeing people so pitiful and weak, hated how much disdain this boy probably had for his life, and yet, he found himself crying out words that he couldn't even bring himself to believe. "Hey, don't do it please!" The boy was shaken, his body tensing and locking in place, and he watched Ren with a wary look in his eyes before he decided that the boy wasn't a threat. A sigh filtered through his lips and he looked down, wrapping his arms tightly around his waist, still protecting himself, Ren couldn't stand it, he looked even more small than before. "You've probably heard it all before, but...everyone steals, you know? I'm...basically invisible, I just don't fit in..." He muttered in a dejected tone. Ren found himself playing the same part as he has been in the routine that's seemed to have cursed his life, he despised it. "For gods sake, please..." he held his forehead in his hand and basically growled in annoyance, "are you serious? I just can't believe that for some stupid reason you got here before me..." The boy's head shot up and his eyes were comically wide. "Come on, are you actually so short sighted that you can't see that it doesn't matter whether or not you fit in with everyone? Whether or not they accept you? Are you?" he inhaled and exhaled slowly and turned his face back up to look at the boy, "Because honestly, why do you care what others think about you when you should care more about what you think about yourself, and who even needs everyone when you have those who matter like your friends and your family? At least you still have dinner always waiting on the table, you know." Tears ran down the boy's cheek and a choked sound came from his lips before his arms fell fell limp and he hung his head again, sobs riveted and shook his body, Ren hated how he looked when he cried, he just wanted to step forward and do something to stop whatever was causing his pain. He cautiously moved towards the boy, holding his hand in front of him with his fingers outstretched, his heart was hammering in his chest, his fingers clasped around the boys hand and pulled him away from the edge and the boy fell into a fetal position at his feet, sobbing something incomprehensible. He slowly knelt and places his hand on the boy's shoulder and stayed that way until his sobbing ceased. "Thank you, Ren," it was a barely audible whisper, but to Ren it sounded like a million thunder drums, the boy looked back up at him and his bruises were gone, a big smile was plastered on his face, but black and white splotches were appearing over his body, Ren's hand unconsciously tightened it's grip on the boy's shoulder, "I'll always support you, as your friend, so do the same for me, okay?" And then he disappeared. A single tear slid down from Ren's eye, he had his head hung and his eyes screwed shut, he couldn't look up, he didn't want to have to see the black and red card that he knew his hand would be closed tightly around.
MOON: MAX RANK ★
~ Ren made his way to the rooftop one more time, talking each step one at a time, slowly, clasping to the staircase railing, clasping to the hope it would be the last time. He saved one too many people, from a nosy journalist to a reserved guns salesman, he was done. He just wanted to-- but not today, today wasn't the day. Just as he took his shoes off he looked up and his heart skipped a beat when he saw who was there that time, a nauseating sense of deja-vu coiled in his stomach and his mouth opened in soundless surprise. What he saw there, standing in between him and his freedom, was the back back of a boy with tidy, well brushed chestnut hair and a clean, practical tan jacket, the very pinnacle of perfection, he didn't understand, how could someone like this want to give up everything in his life? A tired sigh escaped the boy's lips as he turned to fully turned to face Red, his movements were stiff, like he hadn't slept in a long time, his face had lines etched into it from sadness and worry, his eyelids were highlighted by black pools of skin, his mouth pulled into a constant frown, seeing him made Ren want to cry, seeing him reminded Ren of himself, he couldn't stand it. There was silence as their eyes met, Ren was frozen, the boy looked so empty, so painfully empty, and he went to turn away again, but Ren couldn't let him, Ren couldn't let this mirror image of himself just disappear, so instead he found himself trying to cry words that he used to never believe. But a pitiful 'Stop!' was all he could manage to get out. The boy froze, staring directly out towards the darkening sky, Ren couldn't tell what he was thinking, what he was feeling, it made him feel pitiful, it made a gentle stinging pain that he wasn't familiar with gather in the corners of his eyes. "All I want is to stop the pain...to drop the weight that's forever on my shoulders...to not have to live up to all of the expectations of the world...and I want to stop the scars that grow each time I go home..." his arms crossed over one another above his stomach and he looked back at Ren with dark, empty eyes that looked like they were made of ice, even his soft brown irises sent shivers of fear down Ren's spine, "I doubt you can help. I don't even expect you to understand, you're just...a nobody, right?" he finished with a question that sent a dagger into Ren's heart, this was too much for him. "Hey..." his hung his head and allowed his hair to fall over his eyes, he already felt pitiful, he didn't need to show his tears, his weakness, "don't do it...please" he whispered the words that had saved others, but he knew they wouldn't help him here because he just...couldn't think of anything else to say, "ah..." He couldn't. What was he supposed to do? He was confused, he didn't know, it was terrifying, what was this? He couldn't stop this boy, this was new...did he bite off more than he could chew? The boy kept his gaze on Ren, staring him down with those cold brown eyes, his stance retained that of a king while Ren just felt like he was the peasant that was being sent to exile, he hated the way he was being looked at, he just wanted the boy to get down off of his high horse, he wanted him to stop looking. I can't stand the way you're looking at me! The boy sighed and looked away again, Ren just wanted him to stop, he wanted him to leave, he hated it. Go away! "I guess today really just wasn't my day, huh...?" he looked over at his shoulder at Ren standing pitifully behind him, a small, fake smile forced it's way onto his face, a last stitch attempt to not make Ren feel bad; a shade of red slowly seeped over his torso and the rest of his body instantly faded to black, "I do want us to meet again, though, under better circumstances next time..." And then he disappeared. It was too much, Ren just couldn't take it anymore, he couldn't keep standing like this, his legs gave out from under him and he collapsed, a pained scream tearing through his body and ripping from his throat as he threw his head back, screaming into the sky. Waterfalls cascaded from his eyes as the sadness washed through his body like a tsunami, spilling into every crevice and numbing him. He fell forward and found solace in a fetal position, tears still falling and sobs still shaking his body, a blood splattered black and red card lay on the floor in front of him.
JUSTICE: MAX RANK ★
~ This was it. Today was the day. Akira looked down at the asphalt below him. His phone buzzed, it vibrated a few times. It was probably Ann, asking if he was still up for the plans they made to go get some crepes from the stall in Shinjuku. He could hear Mishima shouting about something in the courtyard below, knowing that little blue-haired trouble maker, he was probably shouting about how he supported the Phantom Thieves. His fingers gently ran over and unraveled the bandages that were constantly wrapped around his arms, he thought back to that boy, the last one, the one he hadn't saved. They were still here, but he knew that in reality they were gone, that was something he could never forget. That's why he was going to jump, that's why he wanted to be free. . . . He hesitated for a split second. His hand desperately grabbed at his phone, his eyes scanning over the messages. They were from Ann. "Ren???" "Where are you???" "Why aren't you in class???" "We're all worried about you, respond, please!" He listened to the shouting from below, how hadn't he realized how desperate Mishima had sounded? "Ren?! Has anyone seen Ren Amamiya?! Please, we can't find him!" "Are you really going to jump?" He looked up to see the one he couldn't save standing there, right beside him, his heart started hammering. They weren't gone. He was already free.
