yuta’s sense of trust in sayuri was at an equilibrium. there was no time for exchanging pleasantries or glares for where the other sat in terms of morality, but the situation was dire. if sayuri didn’t feel the need to attack him, why would he swing his katana her way? they would have to be temporary allies, despite the complicated history that sayuri had with suguru geto (not like yuta knew the specifics — after all, he had only come back from africa recently).
❝ i’ll be fine! ❞ sayuri’s smile is replicated on yuta’s face, but the corners of his lips reach further up than her own.
he finally unsheathes his katana.
❝ stay safe. ❞ well, he supposes that’s an issue with the cursed spirits that are drawn to the pair, but he’s sure that she’ll be alright.
❝ don’t hesitate to call out if you need help. ❞ they’re not words of encouragement, but words of finality. yuta knows what it’s like to feel trapped, cornered and filled to the brim with claustrophobia. he doesn’t want anyone else to experience that.
