الخَيْلُ وَاللّيْلُ وَالبَيْداءُ تَعرِفُني

وَالسّيفُ وَالرّمحُ والقرْطاسُ وَالقَلَمُ

The steed, the night and the desert all know me As do the sword, the spear, the scripture and the pen.

Al-Mutanabbi (915–965)

Poeta árabe clásico nacido en Kufa (Irak). Es considerado uno de los más grandes de la lengua árabe. Su obra se caracteriza por el orgullo personal, la fuerza retórica y la defensa del honor. Vivió en tiempos de inestabilidad política y se convirtió en un poeta cortesano, pero siempre con un tono desafiante y altivo. Su nombre significa “el que pretende ser profeta”, reflejo de su ambición y su carácter polémico.

Si me ves callar, no es por miedo, sino porque mi silencio es más alto que tus palabras. El trueno no necesita hablar, su fuerza se anuncia en el relámpago.
